      Old LFC Matches
      Jun 12, 2011 07:27:48 pm
At the age of 27 I wasn't fortunate enough to see the glory days and the great sides that we produced under Shanks, Paisley and Fagan.  Although I have seen many documentaries showing all of our legends down the years, there's nothing like actually watching full games to appreciate how good a side actually is, and I have to admit I haven't seen many full, old games barring cup finals etc.

So, the question is which particular games should I try to watch first?

What an amazing match. I think for pure entertain this is still the best ever premiership game. Atmosphere was electrifying.

I dont like complimenting the opposition but Ginola's goal was very well taken

The 7.0 spurs game sticks out for me , Spurs nickname was the fancy dans and had added two world cup winners to their ranks Ardilles & Villa and came to Anfield feeling rather cocky only to find us at our very very best and ready to give them a football lesson , I was in the paddock right by where Steve Highway floated over the cross for Terry Mac's header   ,were gonna win the league  tra la la la la were gonna win the league tar la la la la la

      Leeds 4 Liverpool 5 - 1991

Hardly gets a mention this game but it sticks in my mind.

We were terrible at the back but some of the play going forward was superb, Digger Barnes especially.

I never saw all of this one but it sticks in my mind.  If I remember rightly, Ronnie Moran was caretaker manager and he said after the game (we were 4-nil up at half time) the tactics he used were something Bob Paisley used to do to kill off European opposition early in the game.

One of my faves, beating the mancs in 1990.  Started poorly, but then treated them to a rout.

There's 10 mins of highlights here:
Liverpool 4-0 Man United 1990 (Peter Beardsley hat-trick)

I guess you probably remember this one, even so, still a nice one to remember  ;)

7-0 Spurs is a must..8 rows back half way line in the Kemlyn Stand..best seat in the ground(to me anyways)...so close to the pitch you could smell the liggerment oil ;D.....and to witness that win was just beyond anything i'd ever seen before in my entire life...
St Etienne at Anfield was a buzz too..right from the off when Keegan bent that cross in after 2 minutes and the MENTAL celebrations after Fairclough netted the winner...
the 74 Final win against Newcastle was class too....Love Colemans commentry on the 3 goal..should've been 4-0 but Lindsay's piledriver was ruled offside...bummer !!
i remember loads of mesmerisin games mid to late seventies when we just brushed teams aside and not just at Anfield...those late Keegan early Kenny years classics would be the perfect christmas dvd for me thanks Santa  ;)!!ha
The goals as well though made the games so famous...class finishes from the like of Case , Kennedy , McDermott, Souness, Cormack , Toshack , Keegan , Dalglish , Highway , Hall , Lawler , Hunt , Thompson ...to mention a few..
I never get tired of watchin those old matches..its great how my two young lads ask me loads of questions about the teams and the players when there watching them as well..they find it weird when they see a goalkeepers picking up a back pass and how some players played with there socks around their ankles...
Jumpers for goalpost days eh...priceless !!

Well , if ever your feeling down watch some old LFC matches..gtee'd to bring a smile back..although I think I overstated the obvious really..Lefty1896 asked about full matches other then finals..doh !
As we all know in those 60's/ 70's/early 80's matches not many had TV camera's present...I can remember whenever goin to the ground for a league game first thing me n me mates would do was look up to see if the BBC or Granada camera's were in the gantry(they used to put one right behind the goal in the Anny road end if I remember rightly)..and there was quirky Gerald Sinstad or a young Barry Davis in a sheepskin with the microphone...If they were, great "It'll be on match o the day tonight" ace !..and you might get the odd live game on Granada on a sunday afternoon...so not every classic was recorded..and ive come out the ground after many a game cursing why the camera's weren't there...but from the ones I've seen the Spurs 7-0 would have to be the one to watch again...

Culmination of a brilliant season.  If you can get a highlights video of the 87-88 season you're in for a very enjoyable couple of hours.

I missed 2 of the away games I had planned on attending that year.  This was one .. the other was a 7-1 win at Derby.

The last 10 seconds of this clip you hear the crowd chanting "4-0".  That has always stuck in my memory as all 4 sides of the ground were singing this - chants normally being left to the Kop.  This was deafening and one of the favourite memories of my youth.
