Played for Chelsea, when their fans were nazi loving fuckers, so doesn't surprise me in the slightest.

Sh*t striker and never understand how he actually had an international career.

And what is it with Sky employing mostly second-rate sh*te to give their opinion on games.
Probably because they only have to pay them peanuts.

So we strip the man of his livelihood and label him anti-semitic for a careless, colemanball style slip of the tongue that from his reaction he had no idea what he had said. He was probably trying to be clever using a big word; that's all. The dramatic headlines in the mainstream media are where this story has turned disgraceful.
      eg
'He's having a holocaust': Shock as Sky Sports pundit compares Arsenal's defending to Nazi genocide
      Daily Mail

It's a bit hypocritical of the Daily Mail to have a go at him consdering that newspaper backed Hitler and national socialism in the 1930s!

And those who label Cascarino ignorant need to check the dictionary to see what the word 'holocaust' actually means and then reconsider who is being ignorant here!

Something similar happened on Sky a year or so back during their Heineken Cup rugby coverage:

2009 Heineken Cup Semi Final Munster V Leinster-WTF did I just say? (watch Paul Wallace's Face)

Haha! Have you read his book? It's one of the best football autobiographies I've read ... but basically he lied about his right to play for Ireland. He was never eligable to represent them!!

Yeah... because the editors, owners and all the writers and journalists at today's Mail were all backs of Hitler back in the thirties...

Are you taking the piss with this?

Even aside from the evolution of the term Holocaust to refer to a specific event, as far as I know... Traore was not being consumed by fire, nor were the Mancs taking part in any kind mass slaughter or destruction of life.

That is it for today's dictionary corner, now over to Carol with the numbers...

Now who is taking the piss? Are you suggesting that anyone thought Cascarino was speaking literally? It was a metaphor. Get over it.

'A' holocaust by definition is simply total destruction or mass slaughter

Which is pretty much how most people would describe Arsenal's total capitulation in that game. It was one of the most one-sided matches I have ever seen. This thread sort of reminds me of things like why teachers now have to use the term 'chalkboard' instead of 'blackboard' ... saying that certain words should never be used because they might cause offence to some people is a very slippery slope and is a sure way to lead to dull, boring 'pundits' who only ever say safe, obvious things because they are terrified of the consequences!

You claimed that people should read the dictionary definition of the term.  I know what the dictionary definition is.  Clearly you did not, prior to my informing you that the reality of the situation bore no relation to the definition of the term. Now you are back-peddaling by saying it was just a metaphor?  Of course it was and it was a grossly insensitive comparison to draw.

No, couldn't be arsed, only read a few autobiographies and most of them are Liverpool players, with Dalglish's and Tommy Smith's being about the best.
