      Liverpool's finances
      Sep 03, 2007 04:08:28 pm
Just been discussing our new stadium and got me thinking about our money from attendances.

I have estimated 25 home games at 45,000 tickets each and a rough figure of £30.

      = £33,750,000.

This provides £650,000 a week to the reds.

Anybody reckon this covers the weekly wages?  And if not - how big is our wage bill?

I doubt this figure will even cover half the squad, especially when you consider Gerrard and Carra earn £200k a`week between them.

Yeah then you can add Torres 90 grand a week to that. Dont forget we also get a percentage of TV rights from Sky sports and Setanta as well as merchandising which brings in a good revenue even after the overheads. Plus if you made the 30 to 32 which I think is a little closer on average to be honest ( just my opion mind I Cant prove it at the time of writing this) even at 32 that takes it to 36,000 000 so even as little as 2 quid makes a big difference.

This is an interesting post Im gonna do some research on this time to use my spreadsheet skills me thinks..

I think your being generous with the prices.
We have 9 Cat A matches at £36, and 9 Cat B matches at £34.
So on average, the 19 league games cost £35 each.

Ok, the qualifier was £24, but the group stages onwards will cost the same as Cat A matches.
FA cup will also follow the same route, as they know it's supply & demand (in the case of final tickets)
It's only the League Cup that'll probably be cheaper.

I reckon on an average of around £34.50.

Just worked out my season ticket average = £34.21  (I save an average of 79 pence on each league game  ::))

Okay lets say ticketing works out at £800,000 a week over the 52 week year.

Was just interested as to what would happen if the TV bubble burst one day.  Would match day revenue alone currently pay for our squad.

I know we have a couple of big earners, but it is my guess that we don't spend more than £1 million a week on wages.  If anyone knows the right figure I would be interested to hear it.

Obviously we would be in a lot better position when our new Stadium is built,
starting with around an extra 23,000 more tickets to sell.

I think we are in a lot better position than most.
Imagine if the bubble burst at Chelsea, Terry on £140,000 a week?, Ballack, Schevchenko, Lumpard etc.
Chelsea to do a Leeds in a few years time  ;D.

It's not just that.  If Chelsea started playing sh*t (oh haven't they started) then would they get 40,000 paying £100 a ticket or whatever they pay? Nah.

There also the wages for the staff who run Anfield from day to day secretaries etc to be taken into account.

what he said, the people which run Anfield off the ground takes some of the prophet, it isn't like FIFA 07, but remember sponsors will give us quite a bit

There must be some serious profit in a £3 sausage roll, about £2.90's worth.  Daylight robbery.

After reading around i noticed that in 2006 the wage bill was cut to £64million equating to 53% of overall turnover, compared to 72% the previous year.
72% on wages alone! thank god the brakes where applied to that possible financial disaster, no wonder we had a debt of around £70m before the new chairmen took over, granted a debt not due to wages alone but you cant' help worrying what might have happened if Mr Moores hadn't fallen on his sword to ensure we could get out of the predicament we found ourselves in.
What unsettles me the most is the importance placed on a long run in the champions league not because of possible glory but because of possible revenue generated from a successful run, surely we should be financially sound with or without that money? I am looking forward to the next AGM to see how we stand with our old debts cleared and any new ones we may have gained from our new owners.

I think 50% is a reasonable limit for pay.  I know Rugby teams have salary caps based on percentages - maybe 60%?

I wish my work were paying 72% of their income on pay.
