      Football has to change
      Aug 09, 2013 01:28:58 pm
Im sick to me back teeth of it.

Players all over the world signing for clubs for crazy sums and for crazy wages. Only to turn around in the middle of the contract and say they want out. They can have a list of reasons from "cant settle" "need to play champions league" "my family need to move" any oul excuse. In some cases the clubs go along with it. The "Lets cash in for as much as we can" attitude. And it has poisoned the game, to a point Im not sure it will recover.

If the clubs didnt pander to the modern players demands what would happen? These players would have nowhere to go would they! They are a spoilt bunch of pansys. They should be brought to spend a week with the family of a cancer patient who struggle to make ends meet. Or with a family with a child with special needs. Fook sake dont even go that far spend a week with a player from the lower leagues who barely makes a living from the game and see what real life is like. Then go back to work at there club and be fooking thankful they are at a big club earning fooking big money and have there health and if tehy dont make the champions league so what you try again next year. Spoilt brats too many of them have become

Clubs are no better. Lets pay 50 million for him and pay him 100 grand a week. For what? A fella to train 10 hours a week and play 1 maybe 2 games a week? Time to give the heads a wobble. Where does a chunk of the revenue come from? Tickets which are too often to dear for the real fan to buy.

A million miles from the game I loved as a kid in too many ways. And it needs changing. .

Top post, Brian, and agree fully with your sentiments.

Despite hating the bad side of the modern game, I do feel privileged to have seen us play back in the 80's, and wish I could have seen us even earlier.

The point being, that at least I didn't have the misfortune to be born into an era when the game was already, to a large extent, ruined.

To address the topic title, it's unfortunately a case of "football should/needs to change", but I sadly doubt it will.

Sadly, it's all sports. Here in the USA, same old story, from Pro players demanding contracts re-negotiated, to NFL and NbA players being arrested here there and everywhere, some of them for murder!!
If they don't like their contracts, they fail to report to training camp. Ticket prices through the roof. And let's not forget the MBL, where a huge steroid scandal is going on right now involving ARod from the NY Yankees.
The only sport here I respect, but not always drama free, is the NAtional Hockey league. Hockey players are tough as hell, and don't make "that" much compared to the othe sports here in the US.

Can't argue with your sentiments Brian,
The modern game has been ruined unfortunately, it's that word again I'm afraid, you know the one that makes the world go round, that and greed go hand in hand,
Add a bunch of fat cats with dollar signs for pupils and voila, you have a money mogul who loves to feed off the less fortunate souls, ie the paying punter,

Just look at who owned us not so long back, that should give you a fair assumption of the type of people that hold all the cards,

Football as you know is being stripped away from the working man, a once working class sport being priced to high for the ordinary working man, and not only thru the turnstiles, commercialism gone mad, where a thin piece of dyed cloth can cost upwards of £50, I guess we are all guilty of adding to the fat cats bank balances,

Can't see a end to this madness tbh, except a possible salary cap, we've got more chance of Suarez being honest tho.   YNWA

It has changed we don't spend more than we earn. This season we have a ZERO net spend and if Suarez leaves late in the window we will be in a negative spend. Money runs football and there is nothing we can do about it,,,,,Its very sad isn't it.

Too much money is simply ruining the game, creating more and more mercenaries, there seems to be very few players loyal to their clubs and fans, especially where big money is concerned.

Unfortunate football won't change because the teams who have the money have the power and won't want change, look at the top UEAFA have have the CL final at Wembley twice in a very short time why ?. because of the money they made do you think for one minuet they will implement the fair play rules......

The game won't change until fans stop lining the clubs' and the players' pockets. Because of fan loyalty and ties to a club this won't happen.

Great OP Brian and one many of us would agree with.

I still love football and love watching Liverpool but it also pisses me off so much these days with the wingeing players, ridiculous wages, over the top media coverage, arsehole 'fans', and just the way the modern game has become in general.

The problem is that while SKY and the likes of BT are pumping millions into the game the clubs will spend more and more on players and the players will become more and more spoiled.

While this is going on there are plenty of fans who lap all this sh*te up and actually revel in the SKY bullshit and the game as it is today.

      It's not just players.

Football clubs are businesses now.  Their success is measured in the balance sheet, how many commercial sponsors they can get, their filled stadium capacity percentages etc.

Trophies are way down the list.

The game won't change until fans stop lining the clubs' and the players' pockets. Because of fan loyalty and ties to a club this won't happen.

      This.
