Who should replace Carragher as vice captain ?

Lucas and Agger are the obvious calls, but for me a younger player who might grow as a vice captain or become the player they have the potential to be, give a signal to the young lads

I went for Lucas. Not just on the pitch but off it, hes always seems to make the extra effort to help the latinos settle in. Obviously loves the club, and a great example of what hard work gets you.  With that said Agger is obviously a great shout too. Would be happy with either.

Stevie backs up players but does it more through his play. I think it was City where he made a pretty robust challenges after Sterling had been getting fouled. Not the first time he has done that either

That's why I used "at times" we could go back to Mascherano getting sent off at Old Trafford and as for robust, we could say stupid, seen more than a few times when Stevie loses his head a little bit, especially if he's having a bad performance and he'll throw a few robust challenges in.

But with the team average age getting a bit younger, we need the senior players to stand up bit more.

Went for Lucas, mainly for the way he's helped young players when they've broke through. Talking to them throughout the game and seems to do it in a fatherly manner rather than being a gobby sh*te.  Gets his twopenneth worth in with the refs as well.

Agger named Reds' new vice-captain

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has today revealed that centre-back Daniel Agger has been appointed as the club's new vice-captain.

The Danish defender replaces Jamie Carragher in the role following the 35-year-old's retirement at the conclusion of the 2012-13 campaign.

Rodgers revealed in July that he was considering a number of candidates for the position and he confirmed the decision to appoint Agger before the Reds departed for Dublin on Friday.

Rodgers told LFC TV: "The job of the captain and vice-captain here at Liverpool is very, very important.

"I wanted to give myself time over the course of the pre-season to assess a number of the players and obviously Daniel was one of them.

"His loyalty and his passion for Liverpool is second to none. And if you add that on to his footballing qualities, then I think it's a good choice for everybody."

The 28-year-old joined the club in January 2006 from Brondby and has since made a total of 209 appearances in Liverpool colours, scoring 12 goals.

Agger played in the 2007 Champions League final and collected his first major trophy at Anfield when the Reds won the 2011-12 League Cup at Wembley.

The Denmark skipper signed a new long-term contract with the Reds in October 2012 and played 35 league matches last season - his highest since joining the club.

Could not have picked a better vice captain than Daniel Agger. Remarkably loyal in an era of greedy footballers clamoring for the easy way to success.

It's going to be Agger. I have no doubts.

When he came on against Melbourne he got the armband straight off Lucas. That removed all doubt about who it would be for me. Him leading the group with Steven also said a lot.

I love him. Think he deserves it 100%. Proper red.
