      Full backs
      Jan 18, 2014 11:33:51 pm
Previous debates would suggest that us redmen are only actually content with our strike force, and feel we need to improve in every other area. I would wholeheartedly agree with such a thought.

So full back positions - do we need to improve? Well, some are convinced that the left-back position is fixed immediately after Enrique returns to full fitness. From what I've read many a times on these boards, Enrique is tunnelled vision and is disruptive in attack.

Personally I can't wait until Enrique returns. I think playing Aly Cissokho has put into perspective just how vital Enrique was to us. By no means am I going to relentlessly slate Aly Cissokho though - Brendan loaned him; Brendan played him.

I still feel we need a new left back and right back. So, do you feel we need new full backs? Or do you feel that Kelly, Johnson, Flanagan, Cissokho and Enrique are of the required standard to play for a top four side?

No point discussing Cissokho and it feels like Johnson has decided his career is over at LFC which leaves us with Flanno and Enrique and Kelly. Seeing as though for whatever reason BR Is not playing Kelly then you have to assume the full back positions should be a priority, esp as the way BR sets his teams up to play.

Why did we opt for Pennant and Crouch over Dani Alves?!!!

Cissokho is not up to standard, and probably never will. Johnson looks like he has some sort of mental pressure effecting his performances, or he's purposely not putting the effort in due to not getting what he wants in his new transfer negations. If thats the case, get rid. Flann has looked ok for me and will only get better, is also already better than the current alternative, and also have to say the same about Kelly really. We could do with cover for them when the also rans are off loaded.

The full back area is a massive concern for me. With Cissokho being well below par, Johnson seemingly playing through the pain barrier, Enrique injured and Kelly fighting back for full fitness, it's somewhere we clearly need to improve. However, this has been a problem area for a number of years, even as far back as the years of Steve Finnan. I can't really see what is out their that would be available and improve the team. I wasn't all that convinced on Bertrand but have to say, he played well for Villa the other day and he certainly could have done a decent job for us considering what we currently have. For me, Kelly has to get back in to the team. He is by no means the saviour but he is a lot better than Cissokho.

EDIT: Flanno is turning out to be our most useful full-back. We could do with him back as well.

Finnan was a great full-back. Probably the last very good one we had. Although I was/ am still a fan of Johnson when on form.
