      Denis Cheryshev (Villareal/Real Madrid)
      May 19, 2015 01:39:52 pm
I saw this on Twitter. Both AS and Marca have reported on Real wanting to sell Cheryshev to make the most of his fantastic season on loan at Villareal. What do you think, a good replacement for Sterling? He has been amazing for Villareal this season.

In recent weeks, Marca and AS, both high profiled newspapers in Spain have claimed Brendan Rodgers is keen to snap up unwanted Real Madrid star Denis Cheryshev. The Russian international spent the 2014/2015 season on loan at Villarreal and is available for around Ā£22million. According to the Spanish newspaper AS, Real Madrid is keen on selling the Russian star while his stock is high. Cheryshev has played a brilliant season for Villareal, and instead of getting him back as a reserve Los Blancos plans to take advantage of this.

Cheryshev would no doubt be a perfect natural replacement for Sterling, who seems likely to depart Liverpool for Manchester City this summer. Like Sterling, Cheryshev career hasnā€™t been without controversy. In 2011, an interview with Marca seen him state that he indeed felt ā€œMore Spanish than Russianā€ however he still went on to represent his home country in 2012 for the first time.

Liverpool have already submitted an Ā£18million bid for the Russian winger however Realā€™s hierarchy are determined for the club to have their Ā£22million valuation matched by Brendan Rodgers and Liverpool to acquire Cheryshev signature.

This isnā€™t the first English club to take notice of Cheryshev credentials as bitter rivals Everton monitored the wingerā€™s situation with Real Madrid two years ago but were unable to match Realā€™s then Ā£10million valuation.

Since 1992 and the beginning of the Premier League era, only eight Russian players have played for English clubs, with Andrey Arshavin (Arsenal), Roman Pavlyuchenko (Tottenham Hotspur), Andrei Kanchelskis (Manchester United and Everton) being the standout players during this period.

With four goals and nine assists this season for Villarreal, Cheryshev seems like the perfect fit to replace Sterling at Liverpool. His weak physical shape however may need to be strengthen should he wish to compete successfully in the English Premier League.

As you say, he is a brilliant little player who will never get a chance at Real Madrid.

I'd take him in a heartbeat.

I know F**k all about this lad other than he has had one good season.

We all know how signing players off the back of one good season turns out don't we?

Any reason why we'd pay money for him when we could sign Kkonoplyanka for free?

Genuinely ask as I've never seen him play but surely if a player we really wanted is now free it would make sense to sign him.

Have you guys genuinely seen him play this season? I've not seen Villarreal once this season so no idea how good he is.

Would be an exciting signing, from the not-so-much which I've seen of him and Villarreal in general this season, they were quite entertaining and a well trained side, Cheryshev being a vital part of that. That's enough to stir my curiosity!

I haven't seen loads but I saw them on occasions and they seemed to be a pretty good side. They defeated Atletico and drew with Real in Madrid. Their 3-2 defeat to Barcelona in the Camp Nou was a cracker as well - Cheryshev also scored in that game! Against Barcelona in particular they were very clever and quick on the counter attack. Vietto and Gio dos Santos also stood out when I saw them - Gio was a surprise because I used to think of him as a bit of a headless chicken but he seemed surprisingly intelligent for them!

Been watching Villareal quite often, and Cheryshev is good, I see him more as a winger. Very good pace, stamina and good on the ball. I actually think he would be our best winger at the club if he joins.

The problem I have is that, if we do go down the winger route, wouldn't it be best to keep our target men and actually use them right? But also, If we do get a deep lying playmaker (Illarramendi), along side Coutinho, I actually think we would be better off looking to buy players like, Firmino, Volland or utilise Lallana & Sturridge as in inside forward?

I still don't see Sterling as a winger, so with him leaving, I think we should look to replace him with a #10/#9 forward.

Agree with a lot of the posts above. The two players who caught my eye from Villarreal this season have been Cheryshev and Vietto on the handful of Liga matches I saw of them.

The link sounds promising then going off the above posts. I'm guessing he'd be worth the reported 20m+ fee then?

Thanks PM for the description. My Major question for any winger coming to our Club is, can they F***ing put a cross in? I want a winger that can knock the 5 cent coin of someones head from 25-40 yard range. We haven't had a pin point crosser of the ball in a long, long time.

Another Markovic ? No please. We need proven players, i'd rather sign Vietto than him from Villarreal, Cherysev didn't impress me too much while at Villarreal.
