      Benitez to FC Bayern?
      Nov 18, 2007 01:01:30 pm
A couple of minutes ago I watched a german football program in which they mentioned that FC Bayern München is interested in Rafa Benitez and has contacted him (there is some speculation that Müchen's coach Hitzfeld will be gone soon). As a source they referred to rumours in English papers. Is there anything true about that? Is there ANY questioning of Rafa being in Liverpool?

IMO Rafa does a very good job, even if Liverpool shouldn't win anything this year. He has rebuild the team and made it ready for years to come. He has a clear strategy that will work out within a couple of years. So I hope that's just a stupid rumour without any substance....

Yes I herd this too, but took it with the usual pinch of salt, of course they are interested in him, he's a good manager! You don't hear them being interested in Moyes do you?

      Bayern set sights on Benitez

      November 17 2007

Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich have reportedly singled out Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez to become their new manager.

Ottmar Hitzfeld is unlikely to remain in his post at the Allianz Arena beyond the summer.

This despite some heavy spending on the likes of Luca Toni, Miroslav Klose and Franck Ribery - players that have taken the Bavarian outfit to the top of the league table.

The Daily Mail claims that tensions behind the scenes at Bayern will mean Hitzfeld, who is in his second spell in charge, will not have his contract renewed beyond the end of this season.

Indeed Hitzfeld, twice a winner of the World Coach of the Year award, has reportedly told friends he will take over as coach of the Switzerland national team after Euro 2008.

Reports suggest that Munich have already approached Benitez about taking over at the German club, but the Spaniard is likely to rebuff their offer.

These reporters just never give up do they?  Can anyone honestly see this happening?

      I can't.

The fact still remains that he snubbed Real Madrid and signed a new contract here.  Benitez has stated he has a plan here for the future, can you honestly see him doing a runner?

      Bollocks to your report ITV.

Yeah I think this was in yesterdays Mirror. Didn't take a blind bit of notice to be honest because just because they're interested in Benitez, doesn't mean he's leaving us.

Does it surprise anyone if a big club are looking for a manager, Rafa's name will be mentioned? It doesn't surprise me.

All parties deny Rafa Bayern reports

      2007 11 18 12:07

Both Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez and Bayern Munich have moved to scotch rumours he could take over at the German side next summer.
Reports over the weekend suggested that current Bayern boss Ottmar Hitzfeld's relationship with chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has become strained of late and he could be on his way out of the Allianz Arena come the end of the season. However, while Rummenigge has admitted directing some criticism towards the club's 58-year-old coach, he is confident of keeping him in Bavaria and even suggested a contract extension will be offered.

On Hitzfeld, who rejoined Bayern after Felix Magath's sacking in February for his second spell in charge of the club, Rummenigge said: "Our relationship of confidence remains intact. You can criticise someone you consider a friend when you believe that things don't go in the right direction."
He added: "We agreed we will discuss an extension of his contract in January."

Benitez also reacted to the rumours by insisting he is not interested in quitting Liverpool as he wants to continue his plan to turn the Merseysiders into consistent Premiership title and Champions League contenders.

Thanks for that Kenny.  Puts my mind at ease.

Just shows how reporters like to cook things up.

If Rafa does eventually decide to leave Anfield, and hopefully that will be a very long time away, he would only go back to a Spanish club........For Sure  (I think)  :-\

Only one other club could ever interest Rafa and this is Real Madrid - not even Barcelona. He is a madrileño through and through...

His work at Liverpool will not be finished until he wins the title and some of the young talent is bearing fruit in the first team - all at a brand new world-class stadium.

His daughters are learning English, his wife is happy, he returns to Madrid very often - like he did this last week during the international break. He has the support of G&H and more importantly Parry... and finally his fans love him (...mostly)... what more could a señor ask for??

      He aint going. End of.

      IN RAFA WE TRUST.

      BENITEZ QUASHES BAYERN TALK

Rafa Benitez today laughed off rumours that he may consider a move to Bayern Munich.

Speculation at the weekend suggested the German giants were ready to launch an audacious move for the Spaniard.

However, the Liverpool boss insists he plans to be at Anfield for many years to come – regardless of who comes in for his services.

"I heard about the rumours at the weekend and it is always flattering to be linked with other big clubs because it must mean you are doing something right," he said.

"But even if I was approached I would tell whichever club it was that I am really happy with my club, my squad, my supporters and my city.

"There are still many things which I want to do here so I am planning on being here for a long time."

      Well said Rafa.
