To think one of the reds hardest players could succomb to such a dreadful disease makes it even more heartbreaking.

Truly awful disease

The Iron man of Anfield, all the best Tommy.

Sad that a disease that deprived our greatest manager of his memories of one of our greatest nights has struck another red legend.

It is very sad to hear about Tommy,he was what this club was all about and put his body on the line every time he played for us.I always loved the story about Tommy giving Jimmy Greaves a note before playing for Chelsea against us at Anfield. Greavesy asked Tommy what the note said and Tommy replied it is the menu you will be eating in at the Royal if there is any f**king around from you.They are not the exact words but it is pretty much what Tommy meant.
                      What is also sad is we do not appear to have any local lads like Tommy  and so many others from the 1960s era breaking through to the first team.I for one will be thankful that I was a lucky one to see Tommy Smith play his heart out for all us supporters.

Not heard that story about the note billy,so so funny and very typical of tommy,cheers for telling it.

Terrible - it seems barely a week goes by before a legend from the 60s and 70s is revealed as suffering from dementia. Always great reading the testimonies from players, supporters and coaches alike underlying just what a force of nature he was.
