      CCTV on the streets
      May 10, 2008 01:32:36 am
Is everyone happy about all these cameras popping up all over the place then? Or have you even noticed them?

I've lost count of how many times I've stopped at some lights when driving and looked up to see a black orb on a pole, or a blatent camera.

Is it a good thing for peoples safety, or are we having a good piece of our freedom taken away. I'm undecided.

I feel sometimes we're being stripped of our freedom!  Look at how many crimes there are not being caught on CCTV?

I'm off to bed.  I hope they haven't installed one in my room!!!  :D

:lmao: Now if it wasn't your 18th birthday there would be no need to be paranoid!  ;)

You're spot on about crimes conveniently not being seen though Court.

I think it is good to have them in area's that have a high crime rate, just extra security!

I was looking on the cavern web site the other day and I stumbled across the Mathew Street Web cam! You can actually watch every one stumbling around the street bevvied on a Saturday night! How sad is that? I'm a bit worried now because I'll be on it later! I'll have to be on my best behavior! ;)

I'll be honest, I've not really noticed them except for in the City Centre's.

I think it's a bit of both really, I just think it's a shame that it's come to this, but if you've done nothing wrong, then you shouldn't have anything to worry about  :-\

i don't mind CCTV's everywhere because they are there to keep us safe and to catch criminals. If CCTV's are going to help catch criminals, then i am all up for them to be put up. I believe, that if something really serious happened, and there weren't any cameras to catch it then people would be furious wondering why there weren't any cameras to catch the whole thing.

They are there for our benefit and safety, so i don't really mind.

      :D :D :D

Its ridiculous.  You see so many reports of people being punched and kicked to death, but where was the CCTV?  Probably installed in the wrong place or facing the other way!!!  But then people could argue that there isn't enough!  So nobody can win!

Personally,  I think the Police need to step in and make it count nowadays.  Sometimes you find some Police officers are absolutely useless.  My mate has been done in by a copper in a cell once before, but that's a completely different story!

In places like City Centres they are/have banned hoodies or caps (chavs) to stop the 'unidentified' shop lifters.

      I'm more worried about Redkenny's binoculars  ;) :D :D

      Do tell?  ;)

There's a fine line between security and invasion of privacy when it comes to all of this!

At the end of the day, the more CCTV the better when it comes to the fine, law abiding citizens such as ourselves! (I summise! ;)) If someone runs upto you in the street and kicks f*ck out of you, you'd rather that they be caught on camera so they can catch the pr**k and bi*ch slap him with an assualt sentence!

A lot of people feel that they're just watching for the sake of it! If they impliment all of this technology realistically and use ot for the greater good then I'm all for it! But lashing all these cameras up on taxpayers money and not using them for anything useful? It's just negligent and providing a false sense of security for some, and a hindrance for others when it comes to their own privacy.

Thing is, would anyone be surprised if you are getting fined for dropping someone off on double yellows at the shops or something and the camera is the evidence? Save money on traffic wardens and all that?

I had a partnership in a Restaurant in a notorious place near Tottenham, we had so much trouble, they stuck one camera and it was sorted.  First six months there was trouble on a daily basis, and the two years after the camera only one rreal act of violence.  So for me, I think they're a good idea only if used for violence and big crime.

See things like that are just out of order! :-\ I suppose everythings swings and roundabouts though! That's a good point about Traffic Wardens! Would stop them getting abused too! :D Although why someone would want to be one is beyond me!

Same could be said for the likes of Direct Debits! They might be more convenient but they end up sucking you dry and simultaneously putting telesales workers (such as myself) our of a job eventually! We get bonuses for setting up DD's but it's basically our redundancy pay dressed up a bit nicer! :-\
