Carson is as dodgy as sin I watched him alot this season and I'd much rather pepe thank you very much. 10mill for carson is a very good deal in my opinion

Totally agree. Carson manned the goal post 37 times this season for Villa - surely 10 million is not too much to ask for, even for a player who considers himself unworthy of the price tag.

The England international goalkeeper has impressed during his season-long loan spell at Villa Park and manager Martin O'Neill has admitted he would like to keep him on a permanent basis if he can agree a fee with Liverpool.

However, the £10million asking price was the main obstacle to a transfer going through, given that Villa have already spent £1.75million on Carson's loan stint. However, reports on Monday now claim Benitez is willing to knock £4million off the asking price which should see Villa swoop during the close season.

Fulham were linked with a bid for Carson on Sunday, but it is thought the former Leeds man would prefer to stay at Villa having settled at the Midlands outfit in the past season.

A sharp drop in price IMO; but still a profit. 6m + 1.75m loan fee paid. Still not bad.

I'm glad we are able to sell Carson now but im still pretty annnoyed we have given in to O'neills demands to be fair and sell the carson for a decent price when they wont do the same for barry.

Maybe rafa has done a little "you scartch my back" deal with O'Neill but then again we are looking at 2 completly polarised players in terms of position at there clubs O'Neill can afford to ask for a cheaper deal as Carson isn't needed. Villa do need Barry so O'Neill also has the luxery to ask for more money for him also

I do not think that Carson at this moment in time is worth 10 million. Granted at 23, certainly a young age for a regular top flight keeper , Carson has vast amounts of potential. As others have mentioned he is prone to the odd mistake, yet its much easier to make a mistake for a club like Aston Villa than it is for a side like Liverpool who have far less shots on goal to contend with.
In years to come I believe he will be a prominant english keeper as like I said he has alot of potential but at 10 million I think scott is right in evaluating himself at a lower price. When you consider the price we paid for Reina , 6 million I think ? , who in my opinion is a far superior keeper to that of Carson it puts the price we are asking for him into perspective.
Fact is , Villa are asking for too much for Barry and we are doing likewise with Carson , a straight swop would be the ideal soloution but I believe Villa will hold out for somthing along the lines of Carson plus 4 or 5 million.

since his loan move to charlton he has become very big headed and i think the sooner he goes the better because he is not even prepared to challenge pepe for number 1, he could learn a heck of alot from pepe but clearly he wants to carry on going the way he is going.

id rather not see gareth barry at liverpool since our current center mids r much better, yet he is a class player nd it could help us clear out Carson. I rate carson as a good keeper one day but his lack of loyalty and obvious failure to know that screaming to the press will get u nowhere, means he aint got any place at anfield

I would love to hear how you back up your claim that he has got big headed? He has got himself playing regular EPL football and forced his way in to the national side. Would he have achieved this bench warming? The lad has done whats right for him we have already made back what we paid for him with plenty more to come so I dont think it is fair to slate the lad.
