Depends really, City can probs go further than Rovers now with the investment they have recieved but Hughes will need to find out if he is in this for the long run or if Sinatra gets bored then hes gone. Suprised when a saw this story but.

      This Better court?

Blackburn have granted permission for Mark Hughes to hold talks with Manchester City.

City parted company with Sven Goran Eriksson on Monday and have installed the Rovers boss as their first choice to succeed the Swede.

Hughes has impressed during his short managerial career, leading Wales to the brink of qualification for Euro 2004 and establishing Blackburn as a force to be reckoned with in the Premier League.

He is also believed to be in the frame for the vacant hot-seat at Chelsea, while he is regarded in some quarters as being the natural successor to Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United once the legendary Red Devils boss finally slips into retirement.

Despite his strong links to the red half of Manchester, City are keen to get a manager on board with proven top flight credentials and see Hughes as the ideal candidate.

With the Blues' ambitious owner Thaksin Shinawatra likely to make substantial transfer funds available at Eastlands this summer, Hughes will be aware of the considerable potential at the club.

I feel sorry for Blackburn Rovers. You just worry that a bad manager will undo all Mark Hughes good work. There is more money at the club and a good following but Blackburn Rovers are the more stable club. Would he really cope with Sinatra or even Ambramovich. I always like to see an underdog do well in the increasingly world dominated by money.

Maybe this will lead Bently to reach a conclusion that just maybe Liverpool is the better route to take for him.

Totally agree with you mate!  I think the sooner the better as it would definately be advantageous to the Bentley transaction might save us a nicker or two.

I agree scouse pie, Souness left that club up sh*t creek and Hughes has done an awesome job getting them where they are, good luck to him though.

And yes, the Bentley transfer may be a bit easier

Souness has left every club up sh*t creek, us,newcastle, blackburn.

He is a terrible manager but was a good player.

As for the news story, I am rather suprised Hughes is leaving a club on the up to an instable club looking to move up.

I agree that this could pave the way for Bentley to join us, Hughes was his hero and has been guiding him to an England place, now he's going so it may be time to find a new club.

I couldn't give two shits.  You'd never get an ex-blue hero in charge of Liverpool so I can't imagine many City fans would be particularly thrilled with this news.

      They ain't

was listening to the e-mails on SSN and they can't believe that Sven has been replaced by Hughes. Just wondering how Rovers players will feel now, could they be on the way to City?

If Hughes ends up at City he'd better do better than 10th or he may find himself without a job this time next year. One thing which may affect us is if he go's he may take Bentley and for me that will be a blow has he was one guy I was hoping we would get...

      They've done it:

      http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/m/man_city/7431155.stm

      Hughes appointed Man City manager
      By Phil McNulty
      Chief football writer

Mark Hughes has been appointed as the new manager of Manchester City after signing a three-year contract.

Hughes held talks with the City hierarchy in London on Tuesday evening and agreed to leave Blackburn after a second round of talks.

City's only serious concern was a late move by Chelsea after they were snubbed by AC Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti.

But owner Thaksin Shinawatra has landed the man he claimed was his top target after Sven-Goran Eriksson's sacking.

Shinawatra said: "He's an outstanding manager who has achieved many things with Blackburn.

"Mark was always the first choice of our new executive chairman, Garry Cook. Together they will make a great team. They will both prove to be excellent acquisitions, I'm sure

Thaksin also sent a message to City fans still angry at the sacking of Eriksson, saying: "These are exciting times for Manchester City and I hope the supporters can understand that I share their goals.

"That sometimes means making ruthless decisions. Now we can go forward to a new era, with a new management structure and great hope and ambition."

The Welshman has guided Rovers into Europe twice, but had recently indicated his long-term ambitions might not be satisfied at Ewood Park.

Hughes is prepared to risk swapping the stability of Blackburn for the volatile regime that saw Eriksson sacked at City because of the bigger stature of the Eastlands club.

And Thaksin is willing to back his new manager with major transfer funds, while he always worked within a limited budget at Blackburn.

And another temptation is the lure of European football, with City in the Uefa Cup, and the attraction of managing a team that plays in front of 40,000-plus crowds on a regular basis.

A Blackburn statement on Monday said City had made an approach to talk to Hughes.

"Mark has made it clear to the board he would like the opportunity to talk to Manchester City," it said.

"In view of this, the board have decided reluctantly to give permission subject to terms and conditions acceptable to Blackburn Rovers being agreed with Manchester City in advance."

Former Wales boss Hughes has impressed during his three-and-a-half year spell at Ewood Park, guiding Rovers to seventh in the Premier League last season.

He also led the club to its first FA Cup semi-final in 40 years in 2004 and another in 2007.

Earlier this year, the former Manchester United and Chelsea striker was one of the front-runners to succeed Sam Allardyce as Newcastle manager before Kevin Keegan took the job.

Hughes's former Wales team-mate Dean Saunders feels he may be better off staying at Ewood Park.

Hughes succeeded Graeme Souness and assistant Saunders at Blackburn in September 2004 when the pair moved to Newcastle.

Saunders said: "Man City will not be run like Blackburn and Sparky will realise that if he goes there.

"I had a shock going to Newcastle. Graeme took a risk going there but you don't realise how well Blackburn is run until you've left.

"Mark has done well and taken the club into Europe a couple of times by finishing seventh twice.

"But that is because of how it's run and because the chairman and the directors are very stable people.

"Mark will have the same problem at Man City that we had at Newcastle and he'll realise it should he get there."

This is what I don't understand, why is he leaving for a club who finished 2 places below Blackburn.

Arguably City are the bigger club but still, he's got Blackburn on the up.

      Strange decision for me.
