Right heres my match report:
It was a mini tournament with liverpool, MANure, Linfield and glentoran legends (both local belfast teams). The first match was Liverpool v Glentoan. It was quite an exciting game. Phil Neal was bombing down the right wing (was plying right back) and was going crazy at the referee and linesman after any decision went against him (loved that). Alan Kennedy was as controlling as ever at the back. He faced quite a good player who was an ex- glentoran player and I believe he had a bried stint in england (didnt really make it tho). Kennedy had a man who was far quicker and younger (although not as high profiled) in his back pocket. Micheal Thomas was playing very well- was quick, beat his man on several ocassions to send in crosses and create chances. The two goal scorers for Liverpool were Mark Walters and John Wark.Walters goal came when he beat two players and curled the ball around the keeper. I cant remember enough about Warks goal to talk about. The three players that surprised me in this game were Jan Molby, Bob Boulder and John Wark. Molby because, although he has got a stomach on him like a barrell, he controlled the ball very well and he never took more than one or two touches of the ball. Although he never ran, he always found a player with a quality pass and I can now see why some compare Xabi Alonso to him. Bob Boulder was fantastic. I had never heard of him bu I loved the way he never stood still. He was always on his toes, following the ball (from his box) as it switched across the pictch. John Wark was very good. Although his team-mates couldnt always find the ball for him, he made some very intelligent runs and runs that showed he was a very good forward (although according to me dad, was never an anfield first teamer).
Unfortuantely, I thought it was only going to be one game today hwoever there were actually 3. I had to leave after the first game (Liverpool v Glentoran) as I had to go to work. I was gutted. I think i was just gutted that i didnt see Grobbelar play. However, after seeing some of the MANure players warming up, I realised that they were a lot younger and looked a lot fitter so I thought to myself that they will kill Liverpool in the final, simply because they were a lot fitter. Now I did not see the Man utd match but they reached the final agaisnt Liverpool. As I said, I had to leave so I was gutted cause I wouldn't see Aldo, Fairclough, Whealen, Gillespie and a few other greats. However, whilst in work, I had the radio switched to a local radio station andthey informed me that it was 2-0 to Liverpool at Half-time. At this point I jumped up and screamed "Yeooooooooooooo!". I got a telling off. All in all, I loved seeing the match, its just a pity I didnt se the final. I will try and get the final score and I will let you know asap
