The Finland international comes into the side in place of Daniel Agger, while Jermaine Pennant, Lucas Leiva and Ryan Babel also earn call-ups.

The Liverpool team in full: Reina, Arbeloa, Aurelio, Carragher, Hyypia, Lucas, Alonso, Gerrard, Kuyt, Babel, Pennant. Subs: Cavalieri, Agger, Dossena, Mascherano, Keane, Benayoun, Riera.

Interesting line-up with Sami and Lucas starting today, looks like a 4-3-3 with Kuyt as the lone striker and lets hope he gets the job done  :)

Hyypia will deal with Crouchies height, Lucas get's a deserved start after some promising substitute entrances and Babel finally starts a game.  With Pennant and Babel on the flanks we'll have genuine width to our game and Kuyt upfront has proven to be a great success of late.  Let's hope we thrash Pompey, 3-0 :)  Our bench is so pleasingly strong as well!

Some can see the light but i see this side has excessive tinkering. Sami is a fair call but Masch not in for Lucas?

      Anyway, 2-0.

I changed my school timetable so i can actually watch the match this very early morning. Yay!

Pleased to see Pennant get a run out, a player who doesn't feature too much for us but has trick or two up his sleeve. He supplied many a decent cross for Crouchy when they played together but with Big Pete playing for Pompey the conversion of those crosses will fall to Gerrard / Babel / Kuyt.
Still not completely convinced by Lucas... am I missing somthing? Would sooner start with Masch any day. He adds more strength to the starting xI but that's just my opinion. I would quite happily eat humble pie if Lucas produces the goods and we take all 3 points.

      I'm in for a 3-1 to the Reds.  :kop5cf8koxp6:

Four changes then. Hopefully it doesn't mess around with the team work of late.

Disappointed to see Lucas come in for Mascherano.

Tonight I think we'll need a lot of graft and Lucas just hasn't really demonstrated that to me in the past. Hopefully he'll prove me wrong tonight.

Can understand Hyypia coming in with the threat of Crouch.

But can only think Keane and Riera must be tired, along with Mascherano.

That was on the ticket info board here today mate.

On that link aw1 posted in the streams thread mate. It's the first Liverpool link you want.

Although listening to it on City talk as well.

Kuyt hit the post before. Sounds like we're getting a good bit of possesion and seem a bit dangerous.

       Liverpool with 58% possession

22' - Portsmouth swing in a set-piece from the right wing near halfway: Kaboul rises but heads well wide.

18' - Babel with a powerful run down the left, cutting through the away defence like butter... eventually he is dispossessed by Noe Pamarot. It could have been goal of the month if he had banged it in from 20 yards

16' - Portsmouth's Armand Traore penalised for a push on Arbeloa as he advanced towards the penalty area. Gerrard to take it from near the right corner of the box... into the wall.

10' - Lucas, completely unmarked in a central position, meets a Gerrard corner - but can only direct his header over the crossbar!! He should have hit the target - and perhaps scored.

9' - Alvaro Arbeloa attacking down the right as Liverpool pile forward... he finds Kuyt, who shoots low - OFF THE POST!! James tipped it up with a hand and it came off the upright and ricocheted to safety.
