Really not sure what you can do apart from 'encouraging' people or by playing sing a long over the PA or something contrived like that, really is pissing me off though, getting fed up with hearing players shouting..

It saddens me deeply to hear things like this, it's obviously a club problem with the way tickets are allocated the "Anfield " experience clearly isn't good for match day atmospheres with having far too many non_regular visitors,
Another factor is the use of mobiles/tablets etc whether it's texting, taking pics, or phoning people all contribute to a sh*t atmosphere,
I'm a ex regular and I can't recall Anfield ever being quiet during 90 mins,

For me the answer lies within, I would try and incorporate a no device policy inside Anfield just like there exists a no smoking policy, obviously if there is an emergency of some description mobile phones will be used, but have it on silent, it vibrates so no worries there, there is a 15min half time break to do what the F**k you want with them, if you want to take pics turn up earlier and take them while players warm up,

Another thing that would definitely help and although controversal is a return to a controlled standing area, I know this is a contentious issue but we of all clubs I believe could take the lead and perhaps incorporate such a area for a trial period, see how it goes,
We are in the early stages of the redevelopment of our ground so is it possible a suggestion could be made to have such a area built in, something has to be done surely having a brilliant atmosphere helps boost our players pitch side looking back to days of old tell you all you need to know, wouldn't be sad tho if we have a 60,000 seater ground and still hear the playerd shouting, embarrassing & ridiculous.

We're famous for our flags & banners so why not have one that says.........

TURN YOUR PISSING PHONES OFF, WE WANT TO SING, NOT RING !!!!!

The Mancs have just implemented a policy of no large 'ipad' style devices in the ground. Now I think that is to avoid people recording the whole game and uploading the footage, instead of trying to improve atmosphere, but it could work all the same. I think it's impossible to ban all devices, but tablets would be a start.

I haven't been to Anfield for years, I don't even think mobiles were about when I went.

However, all this technology, ipads, iphones, mobiles and all those gizmo's have changed society as a whole, I don't think it's an Anfield thing - it's a society thing.

Take this for example: I like to go down the pub and socialise, talk crap and have a beer or three. I went down and met the missus' colleagues down the pub one day and sat with them. They are all in their early to mid twenties. I could barely have a conversation with any of them, the ignorant little fuckers we're all on their mobiles updating their facebook pages or whatever. A couple of times, I looked around and all six of them were each engrossed into their own technology. The didn't know how to socially engage with someone via chat, well, so it seemed. That generation and the ones after won't know how to talk to people, they have virtually become little robots, fu**ed me right off. I digitally excused myself with a robotic -b-y-e -b-y-e got up and walked over to me usual mob - the people who know how to talk to each other.

Hahaha It is alarming but the kids (anyone under forty) have been completely taken in by all this tech speak and just follow like sheep.
The more they get into the tech bullshit the more detached from any social structure outside their own they become, as you point out mate it is of little relevance and does have the added bonus of not having to communicate with the automatons.

Completely understand where you are coming from. Most of my friends are socially sound in this aspect but one friend I know is absolutely obsessed with his mobile phone. You go out to dinner with him - he's texting or facebooking. You go and watch a football match with him - he's texting or facebooking. You go and watch TV with him - he's texting or facebooking. There had come a point whereby he's texting and facebooking even when watching his own team. It's ridiculous.

But whilst social media may have evolved, and significantly, the minds of the human being have gone backward. Such Facebook status' like "It's been five years since you passed away nan. I'll never forget you" cringe me the F**k out. Like what the heck! If you want to somehow make contact with you deceased Nan, go to her grave and say a Prayer. I very much doubt they use Facebook in heaven.

Was sat towards the front of the Kop for the Borussia Dortmund game. The songs were sporadically being driven by the back of the Kop and myself and my mate's daughter were joining in. We were very much in isolation, not many people around us joined in.

The girl sat next to me was looking at her mobile the whole game, don't think she even jumped up when we scored. I struggle to see the point of being there if you have no interest, you should let the ticket be bought by someone who cares.

Don't get to too many games as it's a nightmare to get hold of tickets, but of all those I have been to the only one I can recall where the singing never stopped was the Zenit game last year.

      Indeed.

The atmosphere seems non existent when you watching the game on the telly these days.

All we need is someone with a trumpet to get stuff going.. or those big drums.

In all seriousness, whenever I've been bar two games basically what happens is the Kop gets a chant going the ground starts to join but then everyone bails after the first time singing it. It should be repeated but everyone gives up, including the Kop.

it's a sad state of affairs mate. i know every generation getting older complains about the same thing, but this new generation are so far removed from genuine human interaction that it's scary. we were recruiting for an opening in my team and i wanted to bring in a graduate with a couple of years of experience. 300+ people applied for 1 role, we interviewed 20 or so twenty somethings and honestly...2 or 3 had some levels of maturity and social skills. The rest looked like they'd rather do the interview over what's app.

eerily, it reminds me of 1984 (the book)...everyone controlled by screens. so true nowdays. i used to go to anfield a lot when i lived in liverpool 10 years ago and even for sh*tty league cup games, there would be atmosphere. for the big games, it was always electric with banter and genuine togetherness with the players on the pitch. it felt like we were by their side with every kick of the ball. now, watching the game and being able to hear managers shout instructions to their players...it saddens me.

it's not an anfield problem unfortunately, it's the new generation.

I don't think technology in itself is to blame as I'm sure there are many of us who are into tech but would still go to the game and forget about it and get behind the lads.

It's more the type of person who is going to the game these days and see it as an 'experience' and feel they have to let everyone know they've been there even while the game is going on.

There you go, something along the same lines would suffice, c'mon all you budding banner makers, see who can come up with the best one, a sort of competition where the winner has his/her banner on show for the season, who knows might start a trend for every ground in English football,

It may not work straight off, but it plants a seed, and if your in the kop or wherever else and your neighbours are engrossed with their phone just remind them where they are, let's get back those days you went home hoarse with signing and shouting and as dry as a nuns punani, that is the true Anfield experience right there, the only thing missing would be the swaying back & forth, happy happy days back then!

It' something that's grated me for a while now this, I read above someone saying put your phone away as you've 15 minutes in the break to use it. Even this attitude does my head in. What happened to getting there early and singing our songs together in the ground? And I'm not talking YNWA as the games about to start, I'm talking going through our full repertoire pre game and really getting the crowd going. I can remember when half time wasn't a signal for everyone to fall silent put yr head in yr phone and see what some old school friend you never see or are likely to see is doing right now.

I'm sick like many above of being out sung by away fans time and time again, but the thing that annoys me most is the looks you get from fellow reds. WTF is that all about do they actually know our history and what this great club is about. Stand up and make the oppo sh1t themselves when they take to the pitch FFS.

A Lazy Day on the Kop?
I'm slightly annoyed with the lack of vocal support on the Kop during yesterday's opening game against Southampton.

It was the opening game of a new season, at Anfield, as runners up. The atmosphere should have been electric throughout the game. However, I counted only 4 times when the Kop were in full voice. Two of these occasions were after we'd scored and one was at the start of the game.

Perhaps the lack of vocal support was due to nervousness. What has annoyed me though is that I, like many others, have found it impossible to purchase tickets for any game. If I'd have been able to buy a ticket, my vocal backing would have been constant, as it ha been every time I've been to Anfield. It almost feels like there were a lot of wasted tickets yesterday.

Obviously my thoughts have been put forward in a respectful manner.
