      The Cabbage Hall
      20 Breck Road, Anfield, Liverpool, Merseyside  L4 2RB  Tel. 0151 2632418 7664@greeneking.co.uk
      PUBLICANS:  Les & Jeanette Cody.

      PUB OPENING TIMES
      Sunday - Thursday 12noon - 11pm. Friday & Saturday 12noon - 12mn.
When Liverpool home matches on we open early.

On Draught: Carling, Fosters, Heineken, Stella, Ruddles Best, John Smiths Smooth, Guinness, Guinness Extra Cold, Strongbow Cider.

      What they say:

The Cabbage Hall is very conveniently located in Anfield beside the Stadium and a stones throw from Everton football ground.  The building dates back to the early 1900's and benefited inside and out from a major refurbishment in July 2005.  Our location has made us famous for being the main Liverpool supporters pub and match days sees a maximum capacity within the pub!  During the week local office workers spend their lunch breaks with us having a meal from the main menu or a drink and chat with colleagues.  Many come in after the work day has finished, again for a meal or a chill out drink.  There is a self contained function room available to hire for all sorts of private do's with catering for up to 70 people buffet style.  This trouble free venue has a lively atmosphere and is 'the' place to view a match on the big screens or other TVs, have a game of darts, or enjoy some top entertainment.  Be sure to visit us very soon.

      What we say:

Only in this pub on a couple of occassions but really liked it. First off its a close distance to the ground so no taxi journey required. I found it a decent size pub so unlike some pubs around the ground you can enjoy your pint. Seemed to have a good crowd of match goers and the impression I got was a lot of them were scousers. Had a few big screens showing the live football from the early kick off. Pint wasnt bad, I was drinking carling. Bar staff were quick enough with the service even tho it was busy. Couldnt find a website to link the pub so hopefully the info below will be of use. [Brian78]

Ideal for a quick pre-match bevvy then about a ten minute stroll towards the ground.  Can get fairly busy but it's a decent sized pub, and it's got a big car park for people to spill out on to and have a drink outside.  Not known for it's pre-match sing-songs.  Service can be either fantastic or sh*te.  Think a pint of Stella is about £2.70, something like that on match-days although I am ready to stand corrected. The Arkles
      77 Anfield Road, Anfield, Liverpool, Merseyside  L4 0TJ  Tel. 0151 2639496

The Arkles is to be found beside Anfield Stadium and close to Everton football ground in Liverpool.  On match days we are very busy (an understatement), when we attract away supporters who are always made very welcome. We have two big screens with excellent quality pictures along with umpteen other TVs to view the game from wherever you are.  There is also a pool table and darts board to have a friendly game over a pint of the best.  Our clientele covers the complete age spectrum and we have an even split of men and women, all here to enjoy the sporty atmosphere.  Other entertainment includes a quiz night & pool competition.  Come and join in the sociable ambience of this trouble free pub next time you are down this way.

Popular with away fans banter as this is the closest pub to the away supporters end on the Anfield Road.

Well! My first time on here. We are a family from Sweden with boys who are really into football and loves everything about PL and most of all Liverpool FC. That has sort of dragged in me and my wife as well. It is hard to understand and really now how to go about. My wife surprised us all by buying tickets for the big match on sunday. She is that way - fast and gets things done. Most of the time the results of this is just great. But....this time she booked at something called smarthosptalitytickets.c om. After searching around and googling some on the net I'm quite sure its a scam. And they don't return our mails either. ... I don't think we will get any tickets delivered to the hotel. But of course I still hope.
But I need a plan B! And here is the connection to this thread. Where can we go to see the match in company of other redshirted and merry people? A friendly place where kids and teenagers are welcome. Any tips would be just great. Of cource it would be fun to soak in the atmosphere nere the Kop - but maybe there is pubs/sportbars at other locations that is nice? And by the way - what channel is the match on?

Can you tell me which pubs away fans should stay clear of? I don't mean bother boys, I mean the kind of watering holes unsuitable for even father and son.

Mancs are advised to stay clear of all pubs I believe. Other then that once you arent a trouble maker or loud mouth you should get no more then a bit of banter

I'm an Arkles man myself, the bitter is spot on as with most of the ales.I do go in the Cabbage now and again to meet up with friends and it is a good pub for a laugh with fellow reds and you are always made welcome, most pubs in the area are sound but as I said I'm an Arkles man and always end up there and everyone's welcome to join me and the rest of the greatest supporters in the land.

No you wouldn't because it has shut down like sixty percent of the pubs in Huyton. It was called the Yew Tree and was rough as f*ck. Unless you lived round there.

I have the good fortune of going to the West Ham game on Saturday and the bad fortune of sitting with the local supporters (I live in Belgium and this was the only way to get tickets). Would anyone know where Reds fans go for a pint before the match and where I cold grab some good food near thegrounds? Thanks.

Was in the national yesterday for the derby. Quality pub. 90% red maybe more and local reds at that! Pint went down well cant remember what price tho. Considering how packed it was I thought the staff were quicker then I find in a lot of pubs in Liverpool.

Hey guys, how we all keeping? Im a debutant on the site and im heading over to my first game on 18th feb against unirea. Get in liverpool about half 2 or 3 so have a bit of time to kill before the game! So need something to do, and what better than to have a few beer with my fellow reds ;D
Do we reckon the cabbage is the handiest place and a decent atmosphere about it too?
      Thanks, Andy

Cant go wrong in there mate. Good crowd and handy walk to the ground

The Salisbury is a cracking boozer now, its run by away going reds and is now used for all the SOS lads and girls, not many people know that you can go up the stairs and a big screen and a bar to get served, I'll get shot telling everyone abar up stairs now :)

The Albert is okay, I tend to go in there after the game not too bad getting served as I know the bar staff and they always give me a propper glass not a plassy one. Paula who has worked there for years and her mum Irene, Everton supporters and she's the only blue I have on my facebook.

The King Charles next to The Oakfield is my pre-match pub its a bit small and we tend to drink outside, weather permitting, but itsa cracking little boozer though and you wouldn't notice it unless you walked up Thirlmere Road.

I've suggested to the Union we should get the Oakie and use it as a Union bar and get the match day reds back in, it also has an upstairs bar which we kept to ourselves for years :)

Can anyone give me a their thoughts/opinions,

I was told about a pub behind the petrol station down from the ground to head before the game because it was handy in terms of gettin to the bar and cheap enough drink I think the name was the Sandon?

Its my mates first time over vs West Ham and they're dying to see the famous Albert but five or six times I've been in I've spilled more beer than I've managed to drink! Looking for a quiet pint before the madness!

      any recommendations forthcoming?

The Sandon is the pub where we were founded, a sign outside the pub saying that also, is easier getting served at the back room go into by the car park entrance at the back, The Alberts okay if you know the score, like stand up the stairs and get served in the corner to the left, just shout Paula.

I was at The Park during my away trip for Liverpool V. Lyon. A very good pre-match atmosphere, but i guess it's the same in every pub around Anfield

Best pub before the match is easily the Sandon.

Looked pretty well still boarded up the last time I saw it (last month), can't believe it won't reopen though, I would imagine it's a little gold mine especially on match days.

It's a shame about the Cabbage because it was a sound boozer and a great meeting place,I can only think it wasn't making much through the week for it to be making a profit, great pub and I'm sorry to see it closed.

Nothing was stopping last night from being a boss night mate, could of been the biggest dive in Liverpool and we'd of had a belter.

Haha, yeah reckon a few could do with seeing the positives in the worst situations for our club but then again, where's the fun in that for them? Their fun is being moaning, negative, the world is coming to an end bas**rds.

We all went to the conservatory in the Sandon on Saturday, it was pretty good, plenty of space and got it's own little bar in there, met up with Tommo, a couple of fella's who'd come over from Holland and Danny8t4 and his Uncle.

I have to say I love the atmosphere in the Park after a match, always a good sing in there.

Is the cabbage back open lads? And what about other alehouses near the ground that had closed down any back open?

Cabbage isn't getting reopened period from what I can hear. A tesco still appears to be favourite to use the land but that's just gossip, nothing confirmed.

Wouldn't recommend the Windermere to anyone. It's a bit further up Breck Rd from the George on the corner. Still say the best is the Solly though, nice drop in there.

What about the atmosphere in the Albert???
How long before the match is the best time to go to the Albert pub???

Sadly, over recent times the Albert has become a bit like the Anfield crowd in general with the majority going to experience something instead contributing and actually being part of something. Personally, if you want to experience a sing-song Id recommend the Park opposite the Kop end but as is relativley small it does get very crowded so Id get there as early as you can.

Like Kelvo said, as early as possible to saviour the atmosphere, around 12 would be a good time.

And always worth buying the merchandise in there for your 13 year old on a match day as you'll get served quicker than in the club shop plus will also be cheaper too  ;) also, across the road at the back of The Sandon is Hat Scarf or a Badge and is a fantastic shop worth visiting too.

Going to be travelling down to Liverpool on derby day with a few friends for a night out, although we're not actually attending the match itself. We're planning on getting a few autographs after the game though so we'd like to watch the game in the vicinity of Anfield. Where would people recommend?

Cheers HR. Yeah we know it's on the 5th, bank holiday so that was a lot of the thinking behind it.

      Walking probably ;)

Head towards the Kop then either left or right until you start seeing some cabs, could be about a £10 getting into town with traffic, lights etc.

Any cabbies asking for stupid money like £25  f**k them off.
