Nabil El Zhar (born August 27, 1986 in Alès, France) is a Morrocan professional football player currently playing for Liverpool FC. He plays as a striker or "in-the-hole".

Although born in France, El Zhar opted to play internationally for the country of his parents, Morocco. However he has represented France at youth level. In the 2005 FIFA World Youth Championship El Zhar was one of the stars of the tournament [1], and helped guide Morocco to the semi-finals, where they were defeated 3-0 by Nigeria. Moroco ended the tournament in fourth place after a 2-1 loss to Brazil.

Nabil El Zhar is currently involved in the Liverpool set up, having been unhappy with the new contract offer from Saint-Étienne. He made his debut for Liverpool reserves against Sunderland on 28 September 2006. Following that match, he signed a contract with Liverpool and made his official debut against Newcastle in a reserves match on 3 October 2006.

This player meant to be well good!
He forced the Newcastle goalkeeper to pull off lots of saves in the reserve game and it sounded like from the match report that he was our best player even though players such as JP & Robbie were playing!

Rafa has seem to be keen on the kid

      Quote
Jamie Carragher and Steven Gerrard might have stolen the headlines, but Rafa Benitez was keen to highlight the contribution of a less likely hero following Saturday's 2-1 victory over Middlesbrough.
Moroccan winger Nabil El Zhar was introduced on 83 minutes with the Anfield scoreboard reading 0-1 .

Two minutes later the Reds were level before Steven Gerrard secured all three points following a move which started with El Zhar on the right wing.

Benitez said: "That is the reason why Nabil was a key player for us at the weekend. I was saying to him 'stay wide, stay wide' and he offered the wide areas.

"Andrea Dossena was going forward in the first half and Alvaro Arbeloa in the second half but really our wingers are not players who play on the lines. We have to try through our full-backs and keep the other team back."

Benitez has watched his side complete many remarkable turnarounds during his four years on Merseyside.

Even so, the boss admits that, in the moments before Carragher's equaliser, he'd have settled for a draw.

"We had a lot of offensive players on the pitch, but if you had said to me we would draw then maybe I would have said yes because we had conceded late," said the Spaniard.

"It is always difficult to score two goals in that length of time.

"It is impossible to play well all the time, so you need to keep going. You have to give credit to Middlesbrough. They were pretty good and well organised.

"They had good players in front and could play good football. They had players in the wide areas who were good. They worked really hard in defence.

"But if you play badly and win it shows you have the mentality to be contenders and to win trophies. That is a very positive thing.

"People talk about Manchester United and Chelsea being lucky when they don't play well but still keep winning games. But they have the mentality and the quality that you need for being lucky."

He has played in every game so far, a promising sign that he might have an Anfield career ahead of him.

I remember watching him against Cardiff last year, and despite the goal, he didn't look like he had the physical attributes.  Maybe that's something he has worked on and now his rewards are coming his way.

Nabil Is our Talented professioanl player in Our moroccan first team. he was with olympics but I think he will get involved more with the first team. he had scored his first Goal for morocco against Belguim in brussel. I hope he will get more chances with the Reds.
By the way El zher means in arabic : The Luck :) that s why everytime he get involved in the game we win :)

He's got physically bigger this year, something that hindered him last year IMO, so my opinion of him is growing

I think that Nabil looks like a typical winger with speed and movement as his biggest forces, and i have been quite impress when seeing him play. But I also thought that Sinamo Pongolle would be a great player at Anfield but the gap from beeing a good sub and to start matches is obviously very big. But I can`t see Zhar beeing any better then Jermaine Pennant at the moment, but i guess that mean Pennant is on his way out of the Shankly`s Gates.

But Liverpool definitely needs new wingers before the window is shutting down.

happy birthday, seems a good player from what i've seen. hopefully he can build on the few games he's made and force rafa into making him a regular on the seven man bench.

      Happy belated B'day Nabil!

I thought he played class the other night and is showing signs of a very talented young winger, I can see him starting more games and he is very gifted with his dribbling.

      First goal against United?  ;)
