You'll Never Walk Alone!
18 Year Old Nigerian Striker Shot Dead
Dec 15, 2008 10:36:36 pm
Heartland striker Kelechi Arima was on Saturday shot dead in Owerri by unknown gunmen.
A statement from the club stated that the 18-year-old was gunned down by unknown persons in his car after his club's 1-0 win over Gateway on Saturday.
"It is with a painful heart that I announce to you, the passage of one of our most promising strikers, Kelechi Arima who was shot by yet to identified persons while driving his car on Saturday evening," media Officer Cajetan Nkwopara said in a media statement.
"The motive for this senseless attack is not yet known to us but its consequence has left us in deep sorrow. We mourn him, we miss him dearly," Nkwopara added, describing the player as very resourceful, respectful and well behaved.
The incident happened at Iheanacho Street, near the city center just hours after Heartlands game against Gateway.
Arima was not included in the match day squad but attended the game and was believed to be heading for home when the incident occurred.

I don't really know what to say except I wish his family, friends and team all the best.
It's sick that people can actually do this.

Tragic news.
Football is a way out of trouble and unfortunate circumstances for many people around the world. It's sad to hear this lad like many others around his age has had his life cut very short to this sort of crime.
RIP
