The cctv of the actual attack is grainy as hell and you can't tell who gets the digs in.

It can't really be proved. He obviously has said something, but there is no concrete evidence as far as i'm aware that proves if it was provoked.

Have watched it three times now, still can't really tell who is who, at least during the fight sequence.

Someone seems to elbow someone else in the face, then everyone's more or less struggling and pushing.

Whilst this video adds a lot of media hype, I do think what's more important is what the witnesses have to say. The quality of the image is abysmal, without witnesses, Gerrard could just say he wasn't there, who could prove otherwise? :
