Steven Gerrard, without question my favorite footballer of all time.

Stuart Holden since we played together for years, is another player I follow extremely close.

Kinda envy you that you have a friend who plays professionally in England!

Barnes in his pomp was better than any player ever. The way he danced round the opposition was amazing. His balance was perfection. His crossing/free-kick taking with either foot took your breath away. No player I've seen has excited me like Barnes did.

      Not even Messi.

I have a friend (Brazilian) who for some weird reason follows the MLS very closely (a lot closer than many Americans, I'm sure!), and he's been talking about Holden to me for a long time. When he signed for Bolton I finally got the chance to see him and he's indeed a good player.

This season he was very impressive, big shame about his injury.

My favourite? Kenny - best player I have ever seen in the flesh. Had minutes where other players had fractions of a second.

Best player in the best team in Europe for 10 years - and some scottish fans still complained. Did my head in as a kid!

Maradona in 1986 was unplayable, Zidane astounding (Kaka nowhere near imo), Ronaldo (the real one) unstoppable and Nani is a little girlchild

      One word.  Cheeky.

Zidane was class, even back in '98 when i was 12 i wanted him to get a hatrick in the final.

I wish he played in England though.

      Steven Gerrard.

I'm 19 and he has been the heart, spirit and soul of this club since I can't remember!

The best footballer I have seen in a red shirt, one of the most loyal, dedicated, inspiring, etc. etc.

I didn't really get a chance to follow Holden's MLS career just because I can't tolerate the league. I played in college with Holden before he left early to join Sunderland. He was mugged at a pub in England and was forced back to the States and the MLS. I'm just glad he's getting his chance to shine! Hopefully he recovers from his injury like he did after De Jongs rash tackle.

I think no one has made such an impact in my life than Stevie.

I grew up watching him and the number of times he has pulled us out of sh*t is just amazing. To be 2nd on the "100 Players who shook the Kop" list and is still playing for the club is just simply amazing.

My all time favourite is Pele.
I cant understand people who claim they didnt see him play. Well, TV had already been invented, and there is plenty of footage.Maradona second best ive seen, and i did see him play live plenty of times against Uruguay(glad to say we won most of the times, exept for the Mexico 86 match).

Those 2 are a cut above the rest OF THE ONES PEOPLE CAN ACTUALLY SEE FOOTAGE.

Im going to name some less known players, but the greatest of their time. You can llok into their carrers if you like, there is plenty of info o the net. If you want more, i have tons on South American Footballers.

Greatest player of the 20s 30s, Hector Scarone, winner of EVERYTHING. WC, Olympic Gold twice( when O Games acted as WC), 4 times South American Chapion, and much more.

Juan Alberto Schiaffino, Greatest player of the 40s shone in Uruguay winner of everything. Still regarded as one of Milan greatest players of all time and star of the greates AC Milan in History. Many Milan fans still come to his grave in Montevideo.

Garrincha, i love this guy, amazing dribbler, and one of the best dribblers of all time second to Rivelino.( or first depending on who you ask)

Pedro Virgilio Rocha, Star of the 60s and 70s, shone wherever he played. Some say he was the best Uruguayan player of all time, but he injured himself before the 1970 WC. He was trully amazing

      Ermindo Onega, Pinino Mas,Argentinian Wizards.
Alberto Spencer, Gretaest South American Goalscorer of the 60s, and star of the best team in the world of that era. From Ecuador.

Juan Joya, Amazin Peruvian player and one of the best wingers in history

Like Gow said, he was better than Messi.

      And suffered erectile problems too.
