      Walcott Could Leave for £400k

Arsenal's failure to offer Theo Walcott an extended contract in advance could cost the North London-based outfit dear, according to a report in the British tabloid the Daily Mirror.

The former Southampton star's contract at the Emirates Stadium is set to expire in the summer of 2010, and the 19-year-old is thought to be unhappy that the club has failed to offer him a new deal.

Consequently, it is claimed that the Gunners could lose the England international for a lowly fee of £400,000 because of a transfer loophole set down in FIFA's laws.

Apparently, any buyer would have to pay Arsenal, who signed Walcott from Southampton for an initial £5 million in 2006, just £80,000 for each year he will have been trained by the Gunners.

It is thought that the news has alerted the likes of Premier League money-men Chelsea and Manchester City, who should have no problem bettering his current wage of £20,000-a-week, as well as Spanish giants Real Madrid.

Indeed, Spanish sports daily Marca claims that Madrid are monitoring the situation very closely

Would'nt mind Rafa getting him if he can go for that price, we could really do with a player like him as Babel has been bit of a let down this season IMO. With his pace he could be a real asset to the Gerrard, Torres partnership.

It mentions Chelsea, City and Madrid but i think he would turn them down in favour of joining us as he is an apparent Liverpool fan.

That'd be nice, but I think it's highly unlikely that Arsenal (IF it's up to them, that is) would let him go.

I very much doubt that Arsenal would manage to let this fella go but in a case where he did I would definately have him at Liverpool, I agree with you King Kenny, he could really compliment Gerrard's/Xabi's passing and he's not a selfish player either.

I dont think it would up to them by the sound of this clause. Why would it be in his contract if they still had to give permition for him to leave? Still, seems very dodgy that they'd allow this clause.

Exactly what I was thinking. Plus Arsenal save some face as Babel is a 12 million pound player and a player they were very interested in before we signed him

I know mate...agreed ...the only down side I'd be gutted about is if Ryan goes to the Arse and turns out like Henry....be absolutely gutted.

"Arsenal could lose talented English winger Theo Walcott for for a lowly fee of £400,000, if reports in the Daily Star suggesting that the 19 year old star is unhappy with the club's failure to offer him a new improved contract.

Arsenal signed Walcott from Southampton for an initial fee of £5 million in 2006, just £80,000 for each year he will have been trained by the Gunners. However Walcott's current contract is set to run out in the summer of 2010, enabling would be buyers to activate the transfer loophole set down in FIFA's laws.

There would be no shortage of potential buyers after the youngster's performance against Croatia in a Wold Cup qualifier when he scored a brilliant hat-trick, and the news of Walcott's contract troubles has alerted the Premier League's rich boy's Manchester City and Chelsea, as well as Real Madrid who would have no problem improving Walcott's current weekly salary of £20,000

Arsenal will hopefully have learned from their mistakes as they lost the very influential Mathue Flamini last season in a similar situation after failing to offer the holding midfielder a lucrative contract. Flamini then allowed his contract to run out and joined Italian giants AC Mian on a free transfer."

      From the Daily Express

      http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/78363/Walcott-may-go-for-just-400-000

ARSENAL risk losing teenage sensation Theo Walcott for less than £400,000 while they drag their feet over his new contract.

Striker Walcott’s £20,000-a-week deal runs out in 18 months and, despite assurances, discussions on new terms have yet to begin.

That could soon change with Ivan Gazidis due to start work as Gunners chief executive this month. But Real Madrid are aware that, as it stands, Walcott could open talks with foreign clubs next January. Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool are also monitoring the situation.

Walcott could even buy himself out of the last year of his contract for £1million in May, but that is not an option the player or his advisers are currently considering.

Because Walcott is only 19 Arsenal would be entitled to compensation if he decided to see out his contract and join another club. But, under present FIFA rules, the Gunners would only be able to claim training costs of less than £90,000 for every year he had spent at the club.

Knowing Walcott’s current transfer value is in excess of £20m, Gazidis is believed to be keen to sort out Walcott’s contract and make sure the club keeps him at the Emirates

He would be a fantastic addition to the team

Fantastic pace, as that stunning Champs League run against us showed.

What a wonderful addition to our great squad he'd be.

I can't see the Gooners letting him slip.

I think a lot of you out there have been a little hard on Ryan.
I know he has flattered to deceive on occasion, but in snippets has shown his class. His few minutes against Chelsea were classy and unselfish.

He is an International, and should be given more game time for him to keep developing. He has to start more to show his true worth.

I think he has a lot more to offer, but needs to be given the chance.

Why would you be surprised if one of the biggest clubs in the world managed to sign a player who supported them growing up?
