I thought it was a charity match featuring Rodney Trotter.

Jesus, what f**king moron put this lad in there.
      Hopelessly outclassed.

      :D

His belt doubled his width, was scary seeing the lack of definition on a boxer like that.

Like you say whoever let him in there knew he was going in for a mauling, not nice that.

Always has been a head case that one. Cracking boxer but no amount of punches to the head seem to have straightened him out. Although as I remember he was a bit of the king of the bob and weave.

Him vs Nigel Benn was some cracking fights from my early memories of boxing.

Brilliant to see Watson so well.
What an absolute beast of a man fighting back to decent health the way he has.
      A real inspiration.

I remember watching that fight, and I was screaming at the TV for it to be stopped, after Watson went down and kind of whiplashed off the bottom rope with his head snapping backwards, but then was allowed out for the next round.
Some great middle and super middle boxers around in Britain back then.

Had it more or less even, then Froch suckered him.
      Beautifully done.
Out as soon as it hit.

Groves too intent on the left hook counter, and Froch knew it was coming, and got inside it.
      That's what I mean by "suckered" ;D

No getting up from that Swab.

I had Carl 3 points up but some of those rounds were very close.

Edit: Just counted back and it was 4 rounds up.

Groves made a big mistake there, and you can't do that against a fighter with Froch's experience.

haha, he suckered him right in, knowing that Groves would try the left hook counter.

      Exactly mate.

Carl fought very intelligently and showed why he has been in so many title fights.

Not really a fan of boxing and only watched Calzaghe fights when he was active. Since his retirement, I haven't watched any boxing.

The Froch and Groves fight caught my attention due to the hype so I decided to watch it.

From an outside perspective, I thought Groves had the advantage with his jabs and number of punches thrown and landed, I felt he was controlling the fight? and if it went to score cards and the fight carried on the at the same pace and level, wouldn't have Groves won due to number of punches landed?

Anyway, It was a good fight and I enjoyed it :)

You could be right mate but just shows how different one person can see and score a fight compared to the other.

I thought Froch won every round apart from rounds 2 and 7 but I do think George was coming into the fight more just before Carl caught him with what I think is one of the best KO punches I've ever seen.

The majority of people said Froch was in control and winning the rounds but, from my experience of watching Calzaghe I always thought the fighter landing the most punches are the ones in control and wins the round or is that not how it's judged?

That's how Calzaghe won and became unbeaten? He didn't play for KO's but was more tactical and getting as many accurate hits as possible. Whether they were slaps or punches, he always landed more punches than any fighter he fought, thus giving him the wins each round.

Anyway that's how I view it and I agree, that KO punch was amazing! Will be going back to UFC now until another big boxing match arises :D

Made a couple of notes for each round, so here's my scorecard, Groves first, then froch second

1  10-10 quiet round, neither did enough to win it
2  10-9 fairly even, but the big left/right from Groves was enough to shade it
3   9-10 Both fighters land frequently, but Froch does the better work
4  10-9 Good early work from Groves shades the round. Froch came back strongly, but not enough to win round.
      5  9-10  Froch dominant
6  9-10  Froch dominant again, but Groves looking better
7  10-9  Froch rocked back a couple of times with big lefts, came back a bit but not enough

      BOOM
Groves suckered on the ropes, as Groves winds up the big left Froch steps inside and nails him. Froch was waiting for that after Groves started to unload in round 7.
Out as soon as it hit.

      Best knockout?
