ere is a difficulty with Dirk's name....there is how he pronounces it, there is how some Dutch people pronounce it, then there is an acceptable English way of pronouncing it.
Would you like to have a go at explaining EXACTLY how it should be pronounced? bear in mind that the first letter of many dutch names are not sounded anything close to how they sound in English, sounding more like the sound in Welsh when subject to the aspirate mutation. you may remember we had Bruce Groebellar (sp?) in goal for years and his name was always mispronounced or, as we might say, Anglicised.
by the way, the "Kite" version, though incorrect, is explained by the fact that the "uy" is often pronounced that way in Holland...the great Cruyff, who we tended to say as croy-ff is spoken as crife by most Dutch i knew. until i learned better i pronounced Dirk's name Kite.
