      Calzaghe Announces Retirement
      Feb 05, 2009 06:17:15 pm
Breaking news on Sky Sports News is that Joe Calzaghe has announced his retirement from boxing.

      Quote
Undefeated world super-middleweight and light-heavyweight champion Joe Calzaghe has announced he's hanging up his gloves.

The Welshman has won all 46 of his professional bouts, the last being an emphatic points victory over Roy Jones Jnr last November.

"It was a difficult decision but I have achieved everything I wanted to achieve in boxing," he said.

"I've been world champion for 11 years. I've got no other goals to go for. That's why I am calling it a day."

I'm so glad Joe is bowing out from the top.  Undefeated after 21 world title defences - that's fantastic.

Haye, Froch or Maccarinelli to become the next British favourite?

Froch id supposed to be fighting Jermaine Taylor this year, Maccarinelli is still on the comeback after being spanked by Haye.

I really fancy Haye to do well this year.  The heavyweight division is crying out for a 'star' - that's why the Klitschko brothers and Holyfield came out of retirement.  Haye is due to fight Wladimir Klitschko this year - that will be his biggest test to date.

Its good to hear he's calling it a day before he got damaged,as the man said he's got no more mountains to climb,he could equal Marciano's 47 undefeated fights record but he 's achieved a personal goal and in his own mind he's well happy ,the fact that he retires with the super-middleweight and light- heavyweight titles is a testament to his being named the greatest British fighter of all time.
