As somebody I can't remember once said.

You've got to be in it to win it.  One team out of 16 has to win it.  A long way to go - and I would still rather see us win the Premiership but...if we start getting all that luck we have been missing so far we will win every one of our games!

Don't see why not, we thought the same thing when we had four European Cups and now we got 5 !!  We've got the talent, the passion and determination, and the dedicated fans, something a lot of teams lack at even the hightest level.  I truly believe that with a little bit of luck and minimal injuries we've got an excellent chance.  I've not booked any summer hols yet just in case we're off to Athens on 23rd May 2007.  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Thing is I see it this way, we stand a pretty good chance of getting Barcelona in the next round thats if they can beat Werder Bremen. Now Barce aint on form as of late, and to be honest I fancy our chances against that lot. But like you say you have to be in it to win it.

I don't care who we get,
if it's Barcelona or Benfica. Or anybody.
If we want to be the best, we need to BEAT the best.

We can defo win it and we shouldn't fear anyone the teams aren't as strong this year as they were last year except for Lyon. And at Anfield us fans could get them through.

We can't look upon finishing top as being a curse.  Come on let's think about it for a minute.

If we want to win the tournament we are going to have to beat the top sides anyway - just like we did in 2005.

We should be proud we finished top.

The most important thing is that it means the second leg will be at Anfield and it makes for a classic European night.

In response to the original post - Of course it's possible.. The way we are playing we might win our 19th European Cup before our 19th English Title!!

No reason at all why we can't win it. We'll have Kewell and Momo back fit when it comes down to the nitty gritty. I think Momo's injury has been a blessing in disguise, for me the rest of the team became far too over reliant on his work rate and closing down and it meant we didn't close down or work hard enough as a team overall, since he's been injured we've steadily improved at doing this game by game.

The other plus of Momo being injured is that it has led to gerrard getting some games in the middle at last. A lot of you might disagree with this, but Gerrad always used to play that role and was far better at it than either Momo or Alonso, and it was playing that role that made him the World class player he was. When he played nearly every game out on the right I felt his overall play got progressively worse, he stopped getting his foot in amongst a lot of other things he used to do so well, but crucially he just wasn't as sharp and didn't have the same drive. In last nights game v PSV I thought it was very noticeable that he was beginning to return to the gerrard of old and playing him in the middle is the key.

Even when Momo is fit again I think it's really important that Rafa rotates Alonso, Gerrard and Momo and makes sure Stevie gets an equal amount of games in the middle as the other two, it's what makes him the player he is. If Pennant can get his act together, which he showed signs of last night, then Momo might struggle to get himself back into the side.
