Pre Match: Liverpool v Portsmouth (Premiership)

Liverpool v Portsmouth (Premiership) 29th November 2006 (8pm) at Anfield
(We will put the live chat feature on again - starting about 15 minutes before kick off - guests will need to have registered to be able to 'chat')

      Pre-match discussion thread.

      Preview

Should be an interesting one this.  Portsmouth are riding high in the Premiership in 4th place with 23 points compared to the reds 21.  A win for the reds therefore would help significantly in terms of league placing.

Portsmouth have lost 1-0 today away at Newcastle so they may be stung in to a good away performance against us on Wednesday.

Pompey won their first two league away games this season: at Middlesbrough 4-0 and Charlton 1-0, but since then have struggled on their travels - going down 2-1 at Spurs, 2-1 at Chelsea, 3-0 at United and today 1-0 at Newcastle.  Liverpool will need to be near their best to win the game however, as apart from United they have had a good go at the home sides.

Kanu has been on fire for Pompey - scoring 8 Premiership goals for Harry Redknapp's boys.

      Historical Stats

Portsmouth have played at Anfield 28 times.  The reds have been victorious on 14 occassions with 10 draws.  Pompey have left as winners 4 times.

The last time Portsmouth won at Anfield was 55 years ago in 1951 when they ran out 2-0 winners.

Last seasons fixture saw the reds win 3-0.  It was last November, and Zenden, Cisse and Morientes were the scorers.

Portsmouth were very poor today, and I expect them to be alot better on Wednesday. We should win but it wont be easy.............2-1 to the 'Pool, Gerrard and Kuyt to score  8)

must win game, and who'd of thought us saying that against Pompey?
a win sends us up potentialy into a champs league spot, and then we can push forward from there.
maybe it's what the lads need, some light at the end of the tunnel and that elusive away win can be found at weekend.
      3 - 0 to the reds.
      Gerrard, Agger and Kuyt

Because of our massive injury list i think its time to give some players a run.. maybe commin off the bench for 10 - 20 minutes!

Nabil El Zhar & Paul Anderson to be benched?
