Best videogame of all time?

What in your opinion is the best game ever made for any platform?

Oh god this would be hard to pick, so many classic games for each system and there are one classic from each type of game (RPG, Sport, Action etc).

I think if I was going to pick one out of a hat from my top 20 I would go with Final Fantasy 3 for the SNES. I think it is a game I could beat over, over and over again yet love it each time.

Seemed like such a huge game at the time, amazing storyline and a real free style of playing, where you could go and do what you wanted.

Finished it loads of times, but took a while to defeat all the additional bosses and versions of "Weapon" hidden all around the world. A classic.

Half Life 2 and Oblivion are two of the best made games I've played, but the games I've played most would have to be a relatively unknown Mercenaries (1st one) on PS2, which is probably my all time most player game. If you added up all the years I've played PES that'd be pretty significant, and then another pretty much unknown game called Freelancer on PC I played for a long long time (came out in 2000, only really stopped playing it this year).

But best ever? Impossible to say....

GTA San Andreas for the PS2.

It got 99% from most reviews, it was almost the perfect game. The graphics let it down a little bit.

Don't think it was a patch on Vice City myself.  But each to their own.

Sonic the Hedgehog for the Sega Megadrive anyone or is it just me?

Don't think it was a patch on Vice City myself.  But each to their own.

I tried this game, and although the action is good, i found it a little bit sick that you could clobber grannies until they bled.

One game that is good is the game I'm about to go and play now:

My kids love sonic, ye know ive never really played it, probably too hard for me...doh.
Emulator are completley brilliant though.

Favourite game ever! I was hoping they'd bring out the PS3 version, although the videos knocking about were just demo's of the PS3's capability. Shame. Plus they're too busy making Final Fantasy XIII. Madness!

Killzone 2 is now by far the greatest game that I have ever played

Super Mario 3, Sensible Soccer, Streetfighter 2, Tekken 3, PES, Deus Ex, Unreal Tournament.

Final Fantasy VII was my favourite of the saga, but I also loved the IX and X.

Another game that deserves a mention has to be Resident Evil. The whole series of games is excellent, but the first one still stands out for me as a classic.

First played it on the PlayStation, and was instantly hooked! Loved the cheesy acting too - Barry, what a guy!

For me it is got to be Final Fantasy VII I loved it and I still play it now ! So much fun!

Got to be Gta San Andreas on PC although I don't know if it would be the same without me mods.

On the playstation, GTA San Andreas or Medal of Honour, love the arl WWII games.
