Iā€™m sorry but I have to disagree with you.  Owen signed a 4 year deal with us in 2002 I think, and he didnā€™t want to fight for his place when Rafa came.  He went over to Madrid and suffered for it.  His goal tally compared to games played there was actually pretty decent.  But being Owen, he had too many injuries and wasnā€™t in the plans for the future, shame because he should have been at his peak at that time.

When Owen left us for a so called bigger club, and more insulting ā€œto win trophiesā€ he lost all respect from the vast amount of LFC fans.

I actually remember the day Owen became a liability.  My first ever away day, my uncle came over from Ireland and took me to watch Leeds v Liverpool (heā€™s a Leeds fan)  April 12th 1999.  The injury where Owen gave up running, Iā€™ve been searching for it since. I remember my mum taped it on VHS and you could actually feel it go the moment he fell over.

The injury started a chain of events for the lad, which cost him his pace.

I don't disagree with your comments other than when he left Liverpool he still had people who appreciated what he did for the club but signing for the scum cost him any lasting admiration from die hard reds.

He entered most of our bad books when he said he wanted to join a bigger club to win trophies. On the other hand, to his pals Gerrard and Carra, we were the biggest club. He had a decent record in Spain but no trophies won whereas we went on to win the Champions League and FA Cup.

He then joins Newcastle ... well, he wasn't playing for a club fighting for the top five so that was one low point in his career.

Anyways, what really ended the love affair is when he chose to sign for Man United. Even said something like he still checks the results of Newcastle AND Real Madrid.

Also I reckon his new club will be QPR.

Michael Owen bemused by Newcastle United boos
Manchester United striker Michael Owen says he was disappointed after being booed by Newcastle fans during Tuesday's 0-0 draw at St James' Park.

The former Magpies man was jeered when he came on after 81 minutes.

Owen said on Twitter: "Got a poor reception off the home fans which was disappointing. Was desperate to score!"

He added: "Knew I would get booed as that's what a lot of fans do but if they knew the facts then they may have a different opinion."

Owen joined Newcastle from Real Madrid for Ā£16m in 2005 and scored 30 goals in 79 appearances in an injury-hit four years on Tyneside.

Really Judas, you can't understand why you were booed?

Signing for united obviously gives you an inflated ego and a lack of ability to grasp reality.

Gets booed by us, booed by the Newcastle lot, would probably get booed by Madrid and wouldn't be surprised if the Mancs end up booing him . Gone from one of the nations favorite players to probably one of the most hated!

Forget the fact that he is a tw*t...
Which player in footy history has dropped as much as him (david james and gomes not included!)
Honestly..think about it. Think of another player who was such a talent (world player of the year) and has dropped at a youngish age to the level he has? Really can't think of one.
      Appalling end to his career.

As a childhood hero of mine I still find it hard to criticise him. He's made some big mistakes in his career. Leaving Liverpool was just an awful awful decision and if I'm being honest his career would probably have been in a better state now had he stayed warming the bench at Real Madrid in 2005. In all honesty when he played for Real he always did well. But I think there was something like 2/3 different managers that season and when he crept in to the first eleven the new manager instantly dropped him to the bench, despite being more effective than Raul and Ronaldo that year when he got game time. He got 18 goals from 15 starts that year.

Absolutely agree about his record @ newcastle....a bit like rushie @ juve...was better than the media reported.
But, regardless as a professional, if u can forget his affiliation to LFC, think of a player who through fault of his own or through injury has had that far of a drop. For some reason the italian lentini comes to mind though owen had a much larger global impact than him.
      Honestly would love an answer.

He had the highest goals to minutes ratio in La Liga that year. His record at Newcastle wasn't half bad either and I'm sure if he was fit and starting matches for Man Utd this or last season he'd be into double figures. He's still a very intelligent striker who has used that to his advantage following his loss of pace.
