Who the hell accually put these votes together? Gerrard had his best season for Liverpool last season BY FAR. Scoring 23 goals, in one season.

Yep the last bit answered your question. Simple as.  To be honest I have seen a bit of him and think he's a good player. But a player could have a sh*t 9 month season then a good 4 weeks and when it's the World Cup - it DOES count in these awards.

I think what has always happened in these awards is that people have looked at the big tournaments of the year, the Champions League and the World Cup, and probably the Copa America.

Liverpool, and Gerrard for England did little on the World stage in 06.  Just a thought...

Cannavaro deserves it, captain of Juve who won the Serie A and captain of his country who won the World Cup, he deserves it may i say no more! As for Gerrard he should of at least got top 3 what was the list?

All these awards are rubbish, Stevie should have won them all last year, but the footballer award of the year is awarded by a vote of the Captain's and manager if I'm right..so anything goes really..

fabio is a good defender, let's not make the mistake to think that this guy is crap..He ISN'T he would be a great signing for us for example..Italians had always produce pure class defenders..

  That dosen't mean anything at all!! we could find exactly the same kind of quotes in other newspaper for any defenders, including our loving CARRA...and by the way, flo is quality, i always liked the lad and his pace is electric, I'd love to see him back in the squad..
