I'm not defending the guy, but a broken toe will stop you getting your shots off properly, especially if you're punching upwards, because you set yourself on the toes when you want to fire off that kind of punch.
However, he was well beaten even though his opponent was more concerned with not getting hit that finding his own targets.
He looked slow and cumbersome to me - not like the haye who is quick and crisp.
