I know he's passed away now, but John Peel was a massive red. He was one of the most influential fella's in music over the years and many many bands who are household names have him to thank for playing their songs and breaking them.
I remember when he died, Radio1 had a whole day dedicated to him and interviewed many famous bands and artists about their time they spent in his company. Jack White from the White Stripes was one of them and he spoke about when he met him.
He said that he was walking up to his studio and was quite nervous about meeting this legendary dj who was very important to music and was respected by all in the industry. So he gets to the door of his studio and walks in and he sees John sitting down with his head in his hands, slightly sobbing. Jack thought something terrible had happened and was quite worried.
So he says to John 'Hi, I'm Jack. It's very good to meet you. I have to ask....is everything OK? You seem a bit upset?'
To which John replies 'Don't be silly, I'm absolutely ecstatic!! The mighty reds have just won in injury time!!'

I love that story. Will always remember that.
RIP John Peel! Legend!
Dr Karl Kennedy as well.
