I've got AVG, upgraded to the payed version a little while ago. Now got v8.5 and fine. Did have a problem a while ago and called them, advised me to call Microsoft, and again no problems all sorted.
You could try reinstalling it or if you do not have the 8.5 version get that.

Just by the by what problem do you have?

I think they all claim to be the best but for a very good free antivirus try Avast, its not a a system resource hogger and since i have used it i have been virus free. If you cant get your AVG sorted i would give it a go.

If thats all your running I recommend you get a program to tackle the spyware I use spybot search and destroy which works really well.

OK What ANTI-virus software does everybody use.
ive recently tried NOD....which is decent      kazerspy which badly eats into your processing power, and Norton which to me seems brilliant as its very light on recourses

      what does everybody else use.

i got a 2 year 3 pc licence of ebay for 16 notes for norton....worried it wont last long though.

We'll I've been usig Kaspersky for a while and it works fine, NOD it's very light on resourses but IMO it's not that good. Also I've tried Avast and AVG but didn't like. Norton & Mccafee are good I think but they eat more resourses than kas does I think.

IMO kaspersky is the best one.

AVG all the way for me.

Norton just takes up far too much space and resources and Mcafee is just poo.

Based on what some have said i deleted Mcafee (made the computer slow) and downloaded Avast. Have to say it's been sweet so far.

I use NOD32 Smart Security Edition which is light on system resources and seems to detect threats well.
It includes a Firewall and updates regulary.

I've used a few AV's and my other recommendations would have to be Kaspersky/Bitdefender or even try the free AVG.

My computer broke and the repairer gave us a tip with ours.

He said that McCafee was pretty poor and was slowing the computer down quite a bit. He reccommended software called Cloud, which I think is relatively new. I'm not quite sure how it works but apparently everything is taken care of away from your computer 'in the clouds' meaning that nothing is slowed down when the software is in use.

A good place to go is CNET.com. Go to the downloads section and you can find just about everything you need and a lot of it is free.

      I use AVG for Anti-Virus.

      Malwarebytes for Anti-Malware.

Advanced System Care- for Spyware,Cookies,Optimizing,Registry checks, Privacy Sweeps.

Its all free and works great.

I am currently looking for a new firewall.  I only have the regular Windows Firewall and the one associated w/ my router.
