Dalglish to appear in Hillsborough documentary
      Oct 15, 2008 05:09:44 pm
First of all I do not know where to post this, here, dugout, or of course the Hillsbrough board, so Mods please put it where you feel it should go.

Football legend Kenny Dalglish is to appear in a documentary marking the 20th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster, made by his daughter's indie for The History Channel.
Hillsborough: 20 Years On is a 60-minute film by newly-formed Brassneck TV, an indie set up by Dalglish's daughter Kelly Cates, award-winning filmmaker Don Letts and producer/director John Osborne.

Kenny Dalglish, who was the Liverpool manager on the day, will join families of those who died, survivors and players, as he discusses the events of 15 April 1989 on camera for the very first time.

In what was Britain's worst-ever sporting disaster, 96 Liverpool fans died as a result of overcrowding at the FA Cup semi-final between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest at Hillsborough stadium in Sheffield.

The documentary will air around the 20th anniversary in Spring 2009. It is being exec produced by Cates and was commissioned by Delissa Needham at The History Channel.

"It is still an extremely emotional subject for many people and understandably so – 96 people went to a football match and never came home. This film will explain why." said Brassneck TV's John Osborne, who is directing the documentary. "We are producing the film in HD at Lime Pictures in Liverpool, which we feel is a natural home for the production."

Electric Sky has picked up the distribution rights.

This will of course be a very emotional programme, one which I and many will look out for.

      Thanks for posting RedPuppy.

It's good to know Kelly has something to do with the production of it and that it will be made in Liverpool.

      Dalglish breaks silence over Hillsborough

Liverpool great Kenny Dalglish breaks silence over Hillsborough
      by Steve Wilson, Daily Telegraph

Kenny Dalglish, the former Liverpool player and manager, has broken his silence on the Hillsborough disaster, saying police and officials should have delayed the kick off.

Dalglish was speaking to a documentary team for a programme to mark the 20th anniversary of the disaster next month.

An FA Cup semi-final between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest in April 1989 saw 96 Liverpool fans lose their lives after being crushed against crowd perimeter fencing in the Leppings Lane end of the stadium in Sheffield.

Dalglish, the Liverpool manager on that day, said: “The easiest thing to do is put the kick-off back. If the police are talking to the FA and the FA make that call, there wouldn’t have been any resentment in the dressing room.

In an open and emotionally charged interview, the Scot also makes pains to praise the Liverpool fans who rallied round to help their fellow supporters in the most trying of circumstances.

“The punters were superb,” says Dalglish.

“They helped the police as much as anything else. They’re supporters - it was their club in trouble.”

Should Liverpool successfully overcome Real Madrid in the second leg of their Champions League knockout fixture at Anfield next week, they could be required to play a quarter-final match on the actual anniversary.

The club have already requested to Uefa that this be avoided, should they qualify, so as to allow the players and fans to attend a planned memorial in the city.

As well on the 15th, ITV3 will be showing Jimmy McGovern's Hillsborough docu-drama from 9pm til 11pm.

Simply put one of Jimmy's finest works and the second hour for me is more traumatizing, showing how the families were treated during the inquest.

The History Channel are doing something as well, it was advertised last night but they never give any details out.  I'll keep an eye out.
