      A great Gesture from Celtic

      Dear Rick,

Even 20 years later, the tragedy Liverpool Football Club and your supporters suffered at Hillsborough on 15 April 1989 is, I am sure, still very painful and difficult to comprehend.

The events that day changed domestic football forever and it is very regrettable that such a disaster was the catalyst for the safety we now take for granted in stadia up and down the country.

Throughout all that time your club conducted itself with great dignity and I know that several members of your staff at that time attended each of the 96 funerals. That must have been unbelievably distressing and those involved can only be commended.

I recall with both pride and sadness that Celtic hosted a benefit game in what was to be Liverpool's very first match following that fateful cup tie and that strengthened what were already very strong bonds between our two clubs.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you, the team and the wider Liverpool FC family as you approach this anniversary.

With very best wishes to you all,
      Yours sincerely

Dr John Reid, Chairman, Celtic Football Club.

      we acknowledge your gesture.
      Thank you very much

      Thanks to Celtic.

It's good to see them putting footballing matters aside and piecing that letter today. It is this gentlemanly behaviour of different clubs that can only drive football forward as a whole. Showing respect to each other through different times, well done Celtic.

Meh, I'm a wee bit more cynical about Dr. John's letter....but maybe I'm wrong.

I just wonder, during his tenure in Blair's government, (As Home Secretary, (in particular), who's remit  includes policing), how he used his influence to get Justice For The 96?  :-\

Wrong Home Secretary, again it's another round of applause for that wooly-back tw*t, Jack 'Shithouse' Straw. He's the c**t who set-up the new inquest and chose the c**t of a judge who came up, made his crass remarks and then fu**ed off again when he gave his findings to strawless. Who, of course, then said there was not enough new evidence for a new inquest.

Anyway well done Celtic and their fans for their continued support for the last 20 years.

The Justice Campaign has lasted 20 years - John Reid was Home Secretary 2006 & 2007. I was just wondering, could he, if he really cared, have changed anything? I don't know: maybe i'm too cynical.

Celtic fans have always stood by that campaign and shown support - no problem there. Their support means more to me than a "standard" letter from one Chairman to another.

Sorry lad, what I meant was it was Straw who promised a new inquest when Labour got into power in 97.

Thankyou Celtic but wasnt John Reid a member of a Gov that did nothing to help or bring to Justice the perpatrators of this Crime. The same Gov that is holding an innocent man in jail. Empty words.

Im not so sure you are correct with your first assesment their mate. It was a Conservative goverment at the time of the tragedy and John Reid is Labour last time I checked, as for your 2nd comment I agree with you 100%..
