      Phil Jagielka (Sheff Utd)
      Jan 09, 2007 12:46:29 pm
According to Daily Mirror Phil Jagielka is set to join Liverpool for £9m if Sheff Utd are relegated.

This must be some kind of wind up. £9m for Jagielka, a player who albeit is head and shoulders above the rest of his team but at that price no thank you!! Luckily Sheff Utd are staying up! ;D

Hasn't he played in goal for them as well so where getting cover for two positions :)
I would be more concerned over our apparent lack of transfer activity (unless its all going on behind the scenes as it should) or does Rafa think he has his squad in place to finish the season?

Yeah he is a great player, but surely our priority should be to find some reliable and prolific strikers?? Kuyt is our only really talented striker, but we need someone to partner him effectively. Jagielka is great, but another defender? Really??

no mate, we need a proven world class defender now,buy big and proven quality.
We need to show that this club WANTS to move forward.
It's ok buying for the future, but we need the future NOW.

I think we've all learned the lesson for paying silly money to relegated clubs.

      £7 million for Pennant.

We ain't paying £9 million for any Championship player.  No chance.

Jagielka is no where near good enougth to wear the red shirt.

I remember a few years ago we were linked with Phil Tonge (another Championship class player).

We need to buy proven quality players.Rafa gambles far too often in my opinion and should be looking over his shoulder unless he brings in some quality NOW.

We probably have only four-five class players in our squad and the rest just making up the numbers.

I look forward to the DIC takeover when we have some cash (limted) to spend in the summer.

Hes a good player but the centre of midfield is our strongest area already so I can't see us signing him or any other centre midfielder. If we do sign a midfielder who would you prefer Jagielka(Sheff Utd £9m) or Juninho(Lyon Free)?? No debate really

For £9m I definately wouldn't be interested in Jagielka. However I think some people are being a bit too quick to slag him off. He is a very versatile player, he can play anywhere in defence or midfield. He can actually play in goal too, that wasn't a one off against Arsenal, Neil Warnock usually doesn't name a sub keeper as he's happy to use Jagielka as backup.

The main reason I feel he would be a good signing for the right price though is because I don't think we'll get anyone better who'll be willing to sit on the bench for long periods of time. People are talking about the need for higher profile signings, and I would agree with regards to strikers & wingers, but in defence and central midfield I feel we only need to sign backup players in the summer. If we could nick him for £3-4m I'd be happy to see him come.

Agree about assembling a squad rather than a group of individuals....we need strength in all areas and feel we are really close to that....all we need is TEVEZ!!!!!!!!!

Although I think Jagielka is a very good player we should only be looking at top quality players in the summer. I think we only need two or maybe three players to make us contenders for the league title
