Manchester City furious as PFA force them to halve Tevez penalty

Last updated at 10:52 PM on 27th October 2011

Manchester City have confirmed Carlos Tevez will be fined only two weeks' wages for misconduct following a ruling from the Professional Footballers' Association.

City intended to fine the Argentinian four weeks' wages after ruling he was guilty of refusing to play against Bayern Munich last month.

However, the PFA have refused to sanction a fine above the maximum two weeks' wages the club are permitted to impose without without the permission of the union.

Napoli want Tevez to join from Manchester City in swap deal

Last updated at 2:33 PM on 30th October 2011

Napoli are weighing up a move for Carlos Tevez after being told by Manchester City they have no chance of signing Mario Balotelli.

The Italian club are hopeful they might be able to land Tevez, with City boss Roberto Mancini believed to be interested in three Napoli players.

Mancini is eyeing a move for striker Ezequiel Lavezzi, and he is also keen on forward Edinson Cavani and playmaker Marek Hamsik.

And Napoli will be anxious to seal a swap, with Tevez heading to Naples, according to The People.

It could mean Tevez following in the footsteps of his hero Diego Maradona, who remains a legend at Napoli.

If Napoli do make a move, they will face strong domestic competition from Italian giants AC Milan and Juventus.

And Sportsmail have reported that his former club, Corinthians, are also ready to make a bid for the unsettled Tevez in January.

City boss Roberto Mancini has said Tevez won't play for him again, following the player's alleged refusal to come on as substitute during last month's Champions League clash with Bayern Munich.

Tevez 'wants to stay in the Premier League'

      Published 22:31 31/10/11
      By David McDonnell

Carlos Tevez wants to move to another Premier League club having been exiled by Manchester City.

Tevez, out of favour with City boss Roberto Mancini following the notorious bench episode against Bayern Munich, is keen to stay in England.

The strikerā€™s City career looks over after Mancini said he was ā€œfinishedā€ at the club and Tevezā€™s advisor, Kia Joorabchian, said the 27-year-old would welcome a move elsewhere in the Premier League.

ā€œHis family are now living in England, so heā€™s quite happy and settled,ā€ said Joorabchian.

ā€œHe had some problems about being away from them before, but they are with him now and everything is fine. Heā€™d be happy to move to another Premier League club.ā€

Tevez was initially charged with refusing to come off the bench under orders from Mancini in a Champions League tie in Munich on September 27.

City were forced to downgrade that charge to one of refusing to carry out duties as a first-team player and duly found Tevez guilty of five separate breaches of his contract.

Although City fined Tevez four weeksā€™ wages - around Ā£1million - they were forced to halve that penalty on orders from the Professional Footballersā€™ Association, which sets the rulings for such practices.

ā€œThis week, the Professional Footballersā€™ Association rejected the claim that he had refused to come on as a substitute,ā€ said Joorabchian.

ā€œThat has changed everything and clarified what actually happened.

ā€œCarlos was desperate to play. He loves to play the game and always wants to play. Having to sit on the sidelines is very tough for him.

ā€œItā€™s not easy for him at the moment, but, in the January transfer window, City will want to get him out either on a permanent basis or on loan.

ā€œWeā€™ll have to wait and see what happens.ā€

Joorabchian did confirm there was no way Tevez would return to former club West Ham, after their boss Sam Allardyce had expressed interest in taking him on loan.

ā€œHe loves West Ham... but thatā€™s not going to happen,ā€ said Joorabchian.

Any chance of resetting the poll to 'see him sign January'? It'd be interesting to see what the result would be now, I think I know but the extended use of a dead poll's a good thing ain't it?

Yeah thinking that too, I think even he's smart enough to understand that his behaviour at the moment will just be putting clubs off left right and centre.

AC Milan in talks to sign Manchester City's Carlos Tevez

      Thursday, 24 November 2011
      By David Ornstein

AC Milan have opened talks with Carlos Tevez's advisors about a January move for the Manchester City striker, BBC Sport understands.

Inter and Juventus are also interested but Tevez's advisor Kia Joorabchian met AC officials in Milan on Thursday.

City are only prepared to let the 27-year-old leave on a permanent deal.

Tevez has been expected to leave City since he was found guilty of committing five breaches of contract in a Champions League game in September.

The striker has scored 44 goals in 63 league starts for Manchester City and has another nine goals in cup competitions.

AC Milan are in the market for a striker as a replacement for Antonio Cassano, who is out for the season after undergoing a heart operation.

It is understood City will not sell Tevez unless the price suits them.

But they are keen to offload the striker, with manager Roberto Mancini last week reiterating his view that striker Tevez is unlikely to play for the club again.

The Argentine failed to report for training this month, with the club telling their lawyers to take action.

Asked if he could play for the Blues again, Mancini said: "I don't think so. I know he is in Argentina. I don't know what he is doing."

Tevez was photographed returning to Argentina when the club expected him to report for training in Manchester during the international break.

It was the latest twist in an ongoing saga between Tevez and the club.

The player asked for a move away from the Premier League last December, stating he wanted to be closer to his family.

Then, in September, Mancini alleged that Tevez refused to come off the substitutes' bench in a Champions League fixture against Bayern Munich, while the striker maintained there had been a misunderstanding.

An internal club investigation concluded that Tevez was guilty of five breaches of his contract and the player was fined two weeks' wages.

Manchester City reject Liverpool's Andy Carroll for Carlos Tevez offer

      • Liverpool offered City a straight swap of the strikers
      • Tevez likely to return to Manchester City next week

Liverpool have made a remarkable bid to swap Andy Carroll with Carlos Tevez and move on their club-record Ā£35m signing not even a year after signing him from Newcastle United.

The Anfield club contacted City on Thursday to ask how much they want for Tevez and whether they would be willing to contemplate a straight exchange with Carroll. Brian Marwood, the City football administrator, rebuffed the idea immediately, even though Carroll is a player Roberto Mancini has admitted admiring when he was at Newcastle.

The move demonstrates how Liverpool are now openly looking at offloading Carroll despite the insistence behind the scenes at Anfield that he can still play a prominent part and Kenny Dalglish's praise for the player after the 2-1 FA Cup defeat of Manchester United.

Carroll has scored only six goals in 35 appearances since becoming the eighth most expensive footballer in history and has not even been able to establish himself as a regular starter this season.

His problems adapting on Merseyside have also left Liverpool willing to take a Ā£10m hit on the player, with Tevez valued at Ā£25m, though that revelation is hardly surprising considering his difficulties at Anfield, added to the sense that he has not always been fully focused.

Fabio Capello, the England manager, has already expressed misgivings about the lifestyle of a player who has managed only two league goals this season in 20 appearances.

Those remarks went down badly at Anfield, with Dalglish defending Carroll, but the questions will probably not go away until he becomes a regular scorer. Carroll's longest run of starts this season is three games and Marwood's decision was made on the basis that he could no longer improve their team even though Mancini has a shortage of front players at a time when Tevez's strike is in its 11th week and Mario Balotelli is now serving a four-match suspension.

Tevez is planning to return to Manchester next week now it has become apparent that Milan are not able to meet City's asking price and, unless anything changes before Tuesday's transfer deadline, his adviser, Kia Joorabchian, says the Argentinian wants to re-establish himself in the team.

Whether that is possible remains to be seen, with Mancini not prepared to entertain the idea unless there is an apology from Tevez for walking out on the club and the string of other offences that have already led to him being found guilty of gross misconduct and losing almost Ā£10m in wages, fines and lost bonuses since the start of the season.

Tevez is still a formidable striker and finished as the league's joint-top scorer last season, but he will be returning to England with a severely damaged reputation and Liverpool's attempt to take him along the M62 will surprise many people given his propensity for causing dressing-room problems and an apparent dislike of living in England.

There is also the fact that, approaching his 28th birthday, he would not have fitted into Liverpool's usual policy of buying players at a young age who will keep a resale value over the course of their contract. Liverpool, however, were willing to make an exception and City would have been glad to arrange a deal after unsuccessful talks not just with Milan but also Juventus, Internazionale and Paris St-Germain. They remain open to offers for the Argentinian but will not change their mind about Carroll.

I would not like to see Tevez at Anfield as I believe he would upset the applecart and be a disruption. He has made that much money out of football he knows he can walk out on any club whenever things do not go the way he wants. His last 12 months at City he has stated time and time again he does not want to be in England and wants to go home to Argentina. He would be too big a risk and his wages would probably be exhorbitant.
