Youthful Aspirations !

I've long been an admirer of the last line of defence, the goalkeeper and was wondering if any of you as youngsters aspire(d) to be a goalie, and the reason for my post is did any of you as kids (or adults for that matter) have the name of a goalkeeper on your shirt ?
I can honestly say I've never seen anyone with a goalkeepers name on there back or wearing a goalies top !

I didn't but I'm sure I remember someone having an LFC goalie top in juniour school? I might be mistaken though.

I wasn't too bad in goal when i was a kid. Must have been all that footie in the back garden with my dad and he'd always make sure I was in goal for him to take shots at me...  :

My dad did the same with me and he was a manc fan so it was Georgie best against Ray Clemence !

As a football coach. I see alot of young Goalkeepers coming through the ranks at a variety of levels.

I have the same kit that Dudek wore in Istanbul, obviously not the one he wore. Can't say i wear it out and about though.

I had a Goalie top, not sure what year it was from, the sponsor was Candy.

I did used to play goal as a lad, but then I played defence and midfield too, you know how it is when you're a kid!

It was quality too, had padded elbows, and padded hips on the black shorts.

I always used to love waiting for Xmas to come around to get a new pair of goalie gloves too, the proper big ones with all kinds of cool grips on the palms.

Wouldn't it be great to be able to wind the clock back sometimes - I don't think I appreciated how good I had it until I was grown up.

I'm actually a pretty good goalie. That's what I play, though I don't play anything serious, just school tournaments and so on.

Back in the day the goalie was the bloke who was last picked because he couldn't trap a F***ing sandbag. I think that still holds true, to be honest.

I had my chance as a kid and blew it big time,a few teams made enquiries but they all got knocked back I wanted to be a midfilder come striker what a T*T I was and yet I was a very good keeper and with the coaching could have been better but never mind its all in the past  .

you just knew your true vocation was to spend your remaining  time on this hallowed turf supporting this forum with your witty postings ! 

I'm 21 and my entire footballing aspiration (due to a large consumption of beer, food, beer and KFC) lies in goal.

I'll play for a non league side one day. Once probably, and get dropped for being poor!

Ive got 2 Liverpool goalkeeper jerzies as when I was younger I played in goal.
My Jerzy Dudek one is pinned to my bedroom ceiling now.

Pissed football can be fun like, but not as skillful!

When I was younger I had a green Liverpool goalie top, made by Reebok. Around the time of James I think.

The lad who plays in goal for my saturday team now is absolutely brilliant. He got dropped by Liverpool last year after his YTS but alot of it was down to him breaking his knuckles ...twice. The lad who plays in goal for the youth team now, Chirs Oldfield
