Been listening to our song today.

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OV5_LQArLa0&ab_channel=GerryPacemakers

Coming from a family where we're all Red, this song means something to the entire lot of us. Unfortunately we've had a bellyful of funerals over the last decade, I suppose me dad coming from a big family it was bound to happen at some point. But in that time we've lost our Lynn, Lyndsey, Angie, Terry and Brian. And now we've been told that me favourite uncle and me dad's closest brother, our Tony, has weeks left to live thanks to that tw*t called cancer.

I've never been that close to most of the family but I have always had a strong relationship with Tony. I don't know if it's because him and me dad were so close or if because me and me dad are so similar but my relationship with Tony wasn't like the relationship I had with the rest of them.

And I know that at his funeral this song will be played and belted out by those of us who are there.

A lot of people think Daydream Nation is their best album, but for me Goo is the seminal punk rock sound.

      I'm the opposite mate.

I know me arl fella wants it at his and I think it'll be the proudest time I've ever sang it because of the connection we both have with the song. Whenever the day comes that I do lose me dad and best mate, saying ta ra to him with You'll Never Walk Alone is gonna be the best way possible.

Have the house to myself today, so I've been spinning records since early morning. Pure bliss and a nice eclectic selection of LPs too...

Love the Beatles, but this sounds like what it is....A technically tarted up John Lennon demo, Sorry, but this adds nothing to the band's already perfect catalogue. It's a miserable sentimental wishy washy ....nothing.

It's a memory and like all memories their worth is open to personal interpretation, having heard everything the man recorded to listen to a recording never released previously has to be an experience.
To compare it to material recorded at the pinnacle of the Beatles unmatched success is rather churlish.

I wasn't measuring it against any other recordings, let alone ("..at their pinnacle"*) ...just an honest opinion of a fairly dull track.
*You'd find it difficult to get a consensus who would agree when that pinnacle was.

I would suggest the inspirational Sgt Pepper.

It's nice enough that track. Obviously it was never going to match their original output but it was sweet in its own way.

I like stuey's interpretation of it as a memory. Or even a distant flicker of light that reached earth long after the star died! Like Paul McCartney's incredible Glastonbury set last year, there's a sadness that hangs over much of The Beatles now, in the sense of there not being many more moments with them in the present world.

But I love what Giles Martin and Peter Jackson have done with The Beatles output in recent years. They could not have found two better custodians to promote and introduce the work to new generations.
