Good video. The tribute at the end brings a tear to my eye.

Same case for me. Emotional moment for him at that time, and an emotional moment for me now :'(

I am convinced that if we didn't buy Sami when we did then there is no way we would have gone to win the treble and all the other trophies over the last decade.

Until his arrival our defence wasn't just sloppy but there was a general lack of professionalism amongst the players.  He was Houllier's lynchpin signing and has contributed vastly to the revival in the clubs fortunes in the past decade - ending the misery of the 90's.

For the application over 10 years, nobody at Anfield would have been more deserving of a title medal this year than Sami.

I just feel sad for Sami that he didn't get the chance to win a Premier League title with Liverpool, just the last one he's missing.

And thanks guys for the feedback ;)

Yeah it still makes me cry to see Sami waving goodbye to the crowd for the last time. Maybe not his luck to win the league title as a player but maybe he'll win it as a coach!

      Thankyou Sami.

Some great posts on here....I wish Sami could read it.

Loved the moment when he came on the pitch after Stevie handed him the armband and who else but Jamie was standing right there ready to give him a High 5.

Well in to Pepe for getting him up on his shoulders.

Pity that Gomes and whoever that Tottenham defender was, who cleared Sami's goal bound header off the line, didn't read their script properly  :f_steam:

All the best at Leverkuesen Sami, can't wait till the day you come back.

Well I have to say I'm disgusted at the way Rafa treated Sami on Sunday, 10 years of service and he only gets 8 mins in his final game ffs! :@ at least he heard the kop screaming for him to come on and knows that he is loved by every Liverpool fan for the tremendous service he has given this club.  All the best at Bayern Sami mate, we won't forget the highs of your career!

See you in a couple of years when you return as a coach! ;D

A true gentleman off the pitch and a collosus on it, hopefully he gets to work on the coaching badges asap and will be back at the club in the not too distance future.

Big Sami is a shining example to any young player on what it takes to be a professional in the modern day game. Thank you for the dedication you have shown to the club in the last decade Sami YNWA

Mr Thompkinson the author of many a fine article on the official LFC website summed it up very well that all  top four current Premiership managers have bought some right donkeys for mega million ££££££££££ transfer fees over the years.
To be fair Gerrard Houllier can be included in that elite club............. but his cutest buy was big Sammie what a snip at (what was it? a mere £3 million?)
In today's market a real steal !! And above all a servant to the club without equal in today's modern game.
Sammi I think all LFC fans wish you all the best in the Budeslegue and a speedy return to LFC which we all know you hold dear to your heart !!

It is mate, yes. I have to apologise for the shaky hand though and lack of focus. I'd had a good few sherbits the night before and I was goosed from all the singing!

LFC PLAYER OF THE SEASON: NO.5
      James Carroll 01 June 2009
Thousands of votes have been counted and we can now reveal that the player you judged fifth in our LFC Player of the Season poll was Sami Hyypia

The big Finn made a total of 19 appearances for the Reds in his farewell season at Anfield.

Despite his age, the 35-year-old proved he'd lost none of the old defensive magic when called upon by Rafa Benitez this campaign - and his performances earned him three per cent of your vote.

He notched up his 450th appearance in the famous Red jersey as a substitute when Liverpool ended Chelsea's 86-match unbeaten home record with a 1-0 victory at Stamford Bridge in October.

The evergreen centre-back then scored his 35th career goal for the Reds with a trademark thumping header in the 5-1 rout against Newcastle United at St James' Park in December.

However, Sami's finest performance of the season came in another comprehensive away victory. The Finnish ace was drafted into the first team at the 11th hour against Manchester United at Old Trafford in March after an injury to Alvaro Arbeloa in the pre-match warm-up.

Hyypia was thrown in alongside Martin Skrtel at the heart of the Reds' defence, but the ice-cool Scandinavian was far from panicky and rolled back the years to turn out a defensive masterclass in Liverpool's unforgettable 4-1 victory.

He did not appear for the first team again until the final day of the season against Tottenham, when he was afforded an emotional send off by the Kop.

Introduced as a late substitute, Hyypia almost signed off from Anfield in dream fashion, but his goal-bound header was scrambled off the line by Spurs goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes.

Afterwards, Sami was in tears as he bade farewell to Liverpool after a decade of sterling service.

He leaves for Leverkusen a genuine Anfield legend.

There you go. Personally me thinks he doesnt deserve 5th to be honest, because there are many players who have played more and have done more than he has done, honestly. But it is a great send off gift to a fantastic player, well in fans for all sentimentality that we gave him. He deserves this after a decade of service to Liverpool.
