Monkey Island - remastered and re-released
      Jun 02, 2009 06:21:54 pm
Absolutely loved this game on the Amiga.  Four disks, and then the sequel was 11 disks of disk swapping torture!

      Class though.

But before that is out a newer version called Tales of Monkey Island will be released as follows..

Monkey Island is back, going episodic
Monkey Island stands out as our firm favourite amongst the many classic LucasArts adventure games and we’ve long yearned for a fresh take on those classic series. For too long, LucasArts has been content to milk the Star Wars franchise for every last shred of cash and dignity, but that’s about to change as Tales of Monkey Island lands this July on PC and Nintendo Wii.

Tales of Monkey Island is going to be a little bit different to the less-than-stellar fourth game, Escape from Monkey Island, which was released in 2001 on PC and PS2. Instead of a single game, Guybrush Threepwood’s newest adventure is going episodic, in five new mini-instalments.

Telltale Games is taking the helm; that’s the developer which brought back Sam & Max in episodic form, so there’s no doubting its experience in both classic adventure gaming franchises and the episodic gaming format.

Crucially, the team includes some significant series veterans. Dominic Armato will be doing the voice of Guybrush, hopefully repeating the sublime performance of Curse of Monkey Island; Dave Grossman, one of the original team that made The Secret of Monkey Island, is the Design Director; and legendary designer Ron Gilbert is believed to be acting in a consultancy role.

While we wait for the 7 July launch, check out this first trailer. Tell me those steel drums don’t sent shivers down your timbers…

But wait. Monkey Island is not done there. LucasArts also revealed that the original game is getting a full HD makeover, with completely new graphics, voice acting and sound track. The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition will be hitting Xbox LIVE Arcade soon. We can’t wait.
