      Paul Weller - Appreciation Thread

The best thing to happen to music as far as I'm concerned. His work throughout his career is nothing short of magical.

      A genius in my eyes.

Weller is a Legend Billy, I wasn't lucky enough to ever see the the Jam live, but I did have the pleasure of seeing the Style council a few times.

I must admit I lost the faith towards the end of the Style council until his solo career produced Wild Wood and Stanley Road two of my all time favourites.

Never took to 22 Dreams so hoping for another massive album next

I really like 22 Dreams to be honest Venison. But it's not as good as Stanley Road or Wild Wood, but how many are?

Nothing he can do in the future though will beat the Jam's Snap! album though.

I really like 22 Dreams to be honest Venison.

I keep meaning to give it a few more goes see if its a grower as its still in the glove box.

Snap is a great compilation,I usually have the CD knocking around the car, my most listen to at the moment would have to be Setting Sons.

I don't think I've got anything by Weller, The Style Council or The Jam. But there's certainly a good few tunes I've liked over the years.

That thing on BBC4 last night was boss and it made me realise how much Paul Weller really is a pure talent.

Reckon I might have a mooch at Stanley Road and Wild Wood.

Never really got into the Jam, Style Council or Paul Weller. Main reason was I was more of a Heavy Metal fan in the 70/80's.

Really feel I have missed out as the times I have seen him on TV I do like his music.

      Great thread.

Weller is one of the best song writers of all time, I love The Jam and his solo career. Never heard much of the Style Council though.

He was coming to Brazil last year and I couldnt wait to watch him live, but his concert was cancelled, cant remember the reason now :(

I was listening to the Jam again today and they are just fantastic. The way they can go from a song like "Going Underground" to say for example "English Rose" is just superb.

And at the moment I can't stop listening to the song Smithers-Jones. Just says everything I'm feeling at the moment. People pretending to be something they're not and then still being told they're not good enough.

      I like this one too:

The Jam - Running On The Spot - Live

And I love this performance at Glastunbury:

I came to the Modfather's thread cause I didn't want to create a new one just for that, but I was wondering if any of you could recommend me more bands from the so called "mod revival" ;) Recently a friend of mine told me to get Secret Affair's album called Glory Boys and it's pretty good. There's probably more which I don't know yet...

When i saw him at the Guildhall he played a few of his new songs, reckon Andromeda is the best on it from what i have heard.

Should listen to Changing Man, or just the Stanley Road album in general, one of my favorites that he's done along with As Is Now.

I love a bit of Paul Weller, mainly in the Jam! The Jam have some awesome songs like English Rose, Ghosts and Going Underground

Some Style Council tunes are great too... Cafe Blue is a great album.

Been listening to the best of the jam and setting sons tonight,

      The distant echo
of far away voices bording far away trains
      to take them home to
the ones that they love and who love them for ever
      The glazed dirty steps
repeat my own and reflect my thoughts
      cold and uninviting. partially naked
except for toffee wrappers and this morning papers
      Mr Jones got run down

You've just made me want to listen to that song, absolutely love it to bits, I had the privilege of seeing the Jam live, one of the best concerts I've ever been to, still got the T'shirt and the programme.

Never seen Weller on his own though, will have to rectify that, watched a great programme about him the other night. Saw the Style Council live as well, good, but not as good as the Jam.

And he played with Stiff Little Fingers too!

You had to love that mullet Bruce was a legend as well, especially being able to play the guitar with stiff little fingers  :f_tongueincheek:

The SLF are immense as well, I might even blast a few of their tunes out at the weekend.

I keep meaning to have a listen to Weller's new album another job for the weekend.
