Sexy Football: 'Players Robbed By Vice Girls'
Egyptian football players who claimed their hotel was targeted by thieves during the Confederations Cup in South Africa may have been robbed by prostitutes.
The claim was made by an unnamed senior police officer who said there was no sign of forced entry to the hotel rooms in Johannesburg.
The officer also said the players had been "partying" with "ladies of the night" they had invited to their rooms.
"We heard they had been drinking and womanising, and the same women later robbed them," he said.
The head of the Egyptian Confederations Cup delegation, Mohammed Tahir, dismissed the report.
"Of course it is not true, the security is very high and no-one is allowed to get into the rooms without accreditation," Mr Tahir told reporters.
A number of Egyptian players have reported the theft of cash and valuables worth more than £1,500.
The players claimed their hotel rooms were robbed on Thursday night during their 1-0 victory over Italy.
The incident is a huge embarrassment to the South African authorities who are keen to play down crime concerns ahead of the nation hosting the 2010 World Cup.
At the weekend four British rugby fans were robbed at gunpoint in Johannesburg soon after they flew into South Africa for the Lions tour.
There are also reports of a number of break-ins at guest houses in Durban where thousands of British and Irish Lions fans were staying for the first test match
