He is a good goal scorer, also seen Burnley signed Mears too. Looks like they are trying to stock up on some frest talent to keep them-selves up in the Premiership.

Manchester United have signed Wigan Athletic winger Antonio Valencia on a four-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

The 23-year-old Ecuador international is manager Sir Alex Ferguson's first signing since Cristiano Ronaldo signed for Real Madrid in a £80m transfer.

"Antonio is a player we have admired for some time now, having spent the last two years in the Premier League with Wigan," said Ferguson.

Valencia's transfer is reported to have cost United as much as £16m.

"I am sure his pace and ability will make a significant contribution to the team," added Ferguson.

How will Antonio Valencia do at Old Trafford

United have been in contact with Wigan over a deal for Valencia over the last "two to three months", according to Latics chairman Dave Whelan.

"I have enjoyed my time at Wigan, but I am thrilled to have the chance to challenge for the biggest honours in club football here," said Valencia, who scored three goals for Wigan last season.

"Playing in front of 76,000 fans alongside players like Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand and Ryan Giggs will be an amazing experience. I can't wait to get started."

Valencia has played 34 times for Ecuador, scoring four goals.

Lets hope he causes more disruption, as he did at Wigan when he never turned up after International Duty.

Good player, but nothing on Ronaldo is he really.

I'll be interested to see if he's used as a first team regular or a squad player.

      Burnley land Fletcher

      http://www.itv.com/sport/football/news/premierleague/generalnews/burnley-land-fletcher-359496916.html

Burnley have broken their transfer record to sign Hibernian striker Steven Fletcher for £3million.

The 22-year-old, who has four Scotland caps, joins the Turf Moor club for their first Premier League campaign having scored 52 goals 190 appearances at Easter Road.

Fletcher becomes the club's second signing in a day following full-back Tyrone Mears' capture.

Fletcher has agreed a four-year contract with the Clarets, who will pay the Clydesdale Bank Premier League double their previous record fee having shelled out £1.5million for both Martin Paterson and Chris Eagles last year.

The forward was named Scottish Football Writers' Young Player of the Year in 2007-08 and attracted the interest of Celtic earlier this year.

Mears, meanwhile, has signed for around £500,000 after spending time on loan at Marseille last season.

Mears, 26, is looking for a change of luck in the top flight after a shattering experience in the 2007-08 season.

He was part of the Derby side that finished bottom of the table with an all-time low tally of 11 points.

And to think Whelan turned down a 21m offer from Madrid back in Jan.

Hate the way these cu*ts lick the crack hole of Fergie, i bet Whelan kept him just for the Manc pox.

Anyway he's not a bad player but as Ross said he's no Ronaldo.

Valencia is no Ronaldo, its quite obvious, but it doesnt mean he is not a good player.

No other winger score as many goals as Ronaldo, its hard to replace someone like him. But Valencia is a very good right winger, creates a lot of chances and will probably get better playing in a better side.

I feel sad to see him joining Man Utd cause he is one of my favourite players.

No, the thread was just to keep the General Footy Forum tidy. It's not meant to be very strict, just for discussion of other teams transfers in one place.
