Went to see Top Gun: Maverick last night.  First time I've been the cinema for about 12 months.  Great film.  Well worth £6 of your money!

Watched Dr. Strange….it was ok. Actually enjoyed the allusions to some of the old horror films (Carrie, Frankenstein) but didn’t think the movie was great.

Been reading about the amount of assistance the top gun sequel received from the pentagon, saying it will be a brilliant recruiter for the Navy.

Reading that back in 86 the military wanted to make a series of films znd just use them as PR for the military.

Saw TopGun last night. Excellent movie. even better than the original. Nice to just see a good old fashioned action/adventure/drama.

The Department of Defense has an entertainment media unit and has to approve scripts before allowing producers to borrow military equipment. Not sure how Oliver Stone and others got away with it, probably just because the films came out years after it was all done and dusted.

Are they still riding each other's tails? Ref Tarantino's observation of homosexual subtext in the original.

      Men.

Big fan of Alex Garland and this one gives a bit to think about.

Not sure if it totally hits the mark always but the opening hour or so is as beautifully shot as you'll see. All those greens in the forest scenes really are striking

Interesting idea and the end will divide opinion but I enjoyed this overall.

      The ending was... something.  :lmao:

Poor mother and what looked like a 10 year old lad came into the screening during that ending scene, must have been there for the next showing and thought the trailers were on, safe to say they soon left looking traumatised  :lmao:

Saw this tonight. Absolutely fantastic - like nothing I've seen. Funny, SURREAL and profound as well. Phenomenal!

And it's got Short Round (from Temple of Doom!) in it! It really is Short Round after all these years!

Jaws on ITV. Crazy to think Spielberg was only in his mid 20s when he made it. An incredible prodigy and the absolute master story teller. As for Robert Shaw, no character steals a film as much as his Quint.

Went to see the latest Thor film, love and thunder yesterday with my son who is a big Marvel fan. It's ok but below average for a Marvel film. The last Thor film, Ragnarok is much better.

      Just out from Elvis.

Very enjoyable.  The guy playing Elvis did a good job I thought and it had the usually Baz Lurmann flourish.

Interested to see the opinions here on this one.

So I had not seen the LOTR films properly till this year, I have watched the 3 main ones twice over now and while I appreciate they are pretty awesome, I am still a Star Wars (excluding 7,8 and 9) over LOTR type of guy, on top of that I would put Harry Potter ahead of LOTR too.

      What do you all think?

1st one bored me to tears all that F***ing walking!!

2nd and 3rd aren't bad especially the battle scenes.

The original first three of Star Wars are boss, after that I really couldn't be arsed. J. J Abrams star wars film is just a blatant rip off of the original.
