1st one bored me to tears all that f**king walking!!

2nd and 3rd aren't bad especially the battle scenes.

The original first three of Star Wars are boss, after that I really couldn't be arsed. J. J Abrams star wars film is just a blatant rip off of the original.

Yeah the first one is what stopped me getting through them the first time around, I tried when I was back at Uni and stopped after an hour I think.

Ah see growing up 1,2,3 came up as I grew up and Revenge of the Sith has to be my favourite one by far.

I F***ing hate the new set of star wars films, they completely disregarded what George Lucas wanted to do and just were obsessed with being PC that they fu**ed it all up.

Yeah I'm talking original 3. Luke, Han and Chewy taking on the whole Empire

Interested to see the opinions here on this one.

So I had not seen the LOTR films properly till this year, I have watched the 3 main ones twice over now and while I appreciate they are pretty awesome, I am still a Star Wars (excluding 7,8 and 9) over LOTR type of guy, on top of that I would put Harry Potter ahead of LOTR too.

      What do you all think?

The original star wars trilogy is still the best for me but that is probably linked to my age.

The other 2 are adapted from books. LOTR and Harry Potter books are more important to me than the films, this is especially true for LOTR. When watching the films there is always a feeling that it doesn't quite match the mental image I had when reading the book.

Star Wars and LOTR are way ahead of Harry Potter for me, again linked to my age. Harry Potter came to late for me to get attached to it like the other 2. Nostalgia for the things we enjoyed as children/teenagers is a big part of the enjoyment I  have now, it's difficult to assess them rationally.

Yeah growing up watching films with my nan was a big part of my childhood and the only real franchise she took us to the cinema for or as she would call it the pictures was Harry Potter. So I guess that's why I subconsciously hold it in such high regard I also remember her playing star wars for us the OG ones on a VHS player when I was younger so again the nostalgia is there for star wars also.

Growing up if I wasn't trying to be dash from the incredibles or Goku from DBZ it was either Anakin or Harry Potter ;D.

What do you make of the Hobbit films? I've heard mixed reviews, finished the first one last night and quite enjoyed it.

Original Star Wars hard to beat for me but I'd actually have Rogue One as the second best Star Wars movie after Empire Strikes Back.

LOTR is great and I enjoyed it but done find myself rewatching it as much as I do Star Wars.

      Never got into Harry Potter.

Ah mate Rogue one was a masterpiece, I don't understand how Disney can help put that together but also give us the sequels!

The LOTR books are incomparable but films I'd go for original Star Wars, LOTR then Harry Potter (took a while before I could be persuaded to watch it mind).

      Agree.

From time time time I have it as my favourite. It's so good and that third act is as good as you'll get.

Yeah its definitely the best of the new stuff, including the prequels, but I cannot get past my nostalgia of Revenge of the sith, the battle between Anakin and Obi Wan was just so legendary for me.

Watched Point Break for the first time in year last night.

      Really enjoyable.

Get past Keanu Reeves wooden acting and it's a blast and some of the cinematography is great especially those surfing scenes.

Still a great film though, wasn't that like Keanu's 2nd film after Bill and Ted?

Unbelievable that director was Kathryn Bigelow who also gave us Hurt Locker too.

And how many years apart between the movies.

      Fantastic film mate.

Not sure on the timeline but yea can't be far away from Bill and Ted.

It's been on my rewatch list for ages and just got around to it last night. Patrick Swayze is great as well.

Kathryn Bigelow is a favourite of mine and Hurt. Locker is easily one of the best war movies that isn't based on the World Wars or Vietnam

They are ok but it feels like they are cashing in and padding out the story so they can make 3 films.
1 film would have been much better.

On the sci-fi and fantasy film adaptation theme. I think the new Dune film is a very good adaptation. I watched the original film adaptation years ago, it is very average. Read the first 3 books a few years ago, think they are very good. The recent Dune part 1 film is excellent, really looking forward to part 2.

      Bullet Train

I've seen a few sniffy reviews of this but to be honest I found it a lot of fun and a great way to pass a couple of hours this afternoon

Prey the latest Predator film... Still not sure about it maybe one of those films you need to watch a second time as its hard not to watch a Predator film without some preconceptions.

I did have the same preconceptions you mentioned, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. They went back to the roots of the franchise and didn't try to overcomplicate it. I highly recommend it even if you're not really into Aliens/Predators movies.

It was also interesting to learn more about the Comanche culture.

Point Break is one of my favorite all time movies. It's a little camp but pure fun. I wouldn't even watch the remake...no way could they improve ;D

Watched the Gray Man recently. Not bad...not too deep, just good old action.

Brother in law staying with us still hadn't seen Top Gun Maverick so treated him to a trip to the cinema this evening.

It's still as awesome on second viewing.

Literally textbook how to make a blockbuster.

Best thing I can say about it is that I felt 10 years old again. Enjoying a movie with total innocence for the pure fun and thrill of all that you are seeing. It's done with such flair as well. Can't wait to see it again!

Watched Paddington 2 again recently. I f**king love that film. Warm hearted, decent and hilarious at the same time - my nephews love it too! Up there with the greatest films from Disney and Pixar in terms of family entertainment. Hugh Grant puts in one of the funniest acting displays I've ever seen in a film. 10/10

Really? I think Skyfall is my favorite of the Craig era. Although Casino Royale is very close behind.

Of all the Bonds though, nothing will beat Thunderball as my all time favorite.
