Forgot to mention that De Niro does some of his best acting in ages in this and apparently is great in Joy as well.

Obviously likes working with O Russell.

SLP is his best movie in forever and he was indeed good in Joy. Disappointed he didn't appear more often though. Still shocked that movie got as much acclaim as it did.

I can't speak higher of this movie. Everyone in it is just brilliant, the story is brilliant, the directing is brilliant. And the music in it just works with every single scene.

Just in love with Lawrence's character. Not often you watch something and you forget it's a movie and you get caught up in the whole thing but she reels you in.

      Yep.

I'm a huge fan of DiCaprio and think he, even though he has a big profile, is hugely underrated as an actor.

      He's a superb actor srslfc.

I saw Black Mass with Johnny Depp. Good movie, however was expecting a tad more from this one. 7.5/10

Solace: A Hopkins, C. Farrell and some blonde beaut - 6.5/10.

Like you I didn't see Silver Linings Playbook until a while after it came out and I've watched it at least three times since I first seen it.

Something really special about that movie.

      Agree mate.

He's one of my favourites in recent years and should be remembered as one of the greats in the future.

The Titanic done him no favours at all and I think he's been swimming against that for a while after.

      Pun excused.  ;D

I agree, he will or should be remembered as one of the greats.

A fantastic actor, and every movie that I have ever seen him in, he has been faultless.

Even the Great Gatsby, it's not my cuppa tea by any stretch but his acting and persona is what kept me hooked in that. And I enjoyed the movie basically because of him.

And that's why I don't like him as an actor and Russell Crowe as well, they both draw me out of the film by being their persona, rather than the role, it's like a subtext behind every line delivered, every frame they are on screen, it screams out I'm Leo DiCaprio/I'm Russell Crowe. Both would be great stage actors or huge in films from the 60s through to the early 90s or even films made with that aesthetic (see Tom Cruise or Will Smith's careers), but films after that, for me, started becoming less about the force of persona on screen and more about losing my self in the characters and story, not the actors.

Off to see The Big Short now. One of the movies i was really looking forward to seeing this year.

Not sure what to make of the cast, it's a bit odd. Didn't think these four would ever make a movie together. Hope it works well!

The Big Short is Steve Carrell's best movie ever.

Good film. Nothing eye opening if you know the story but I'm glad it was a no bullshit approach to telling the world how fu**ed these people are. No stupid sub plots, just telling it how it is.

      Very solid 8/10 for me.

Lawrence was the stand out in Hustle.

The Revenant is next on my list as well.

Just seen an interview with DiCaprio and several clips of Revenant, looks like one hell of a movie.

Just finished watching The Program. Based on the true story of Lance Armstrong. The actor that plays Armstrong does a fantastic job as does Chris O'Dowd (the I.T. crowd) as the reporter chasing the truth. Sad indictment of people believing what they want to believe even when the truth is so obvious.

      Well worth watching 7/10

Straight Outa Compton hugely enjoyable and brilliantly acted.

Disgracefully overlooked in the Oscar nominations it's a far better movie than The Martian which got loads of nominations.

      It's in the Queue.

Watched The Martian tonight.  Decent.  Was halfway through the book before 'Christmas' happened so couldn't hold it off any longer.

      It was no Oblivion though.

Saw Force Awakens for the third time yesterday. Easily my favorite movie in recent memory.

Batman v Superman looks good but I can't stand Ben Aflleck...wish they had someone else as Batman.

Visually brilliant. Don't think the storyline is as good as some are saying but definitely a very good film. Leo is something else.

Bridge of Spies and Straight Outta Compton next.
