Yeah, the twist was quite clever but other than that it was another over hyped Hollywood production IMHO.

      My son, loves Kubo!

Watched, Gone Baby Gone with Casey Affleck, much prefer him to his brother, that was worth watching. I saw him in Manchester by the sea and that was a bit meh for me.

Hacksaw Ridge, I thought this was a cracker of a movie and probably the best WWII movie I've seen for a while, I saw Allied a while back and found that a little disappointing.

Gonna watch Lion to, I saw it got good reviews.

I will be watching an oldie that went under my radar over the weekend to, Road to Perdition.

Take lots of tissues and leave as soon as Dev Patel turns up. Excellent first half but less than mediocre second half. I guess they had a 45 minutes movie but needed 90 minutes to make a proper movie. Bit disappointed after the rave reviews.

      Watched Fences yesterday.

Very good film but the main reason to watch is the performance of the cast and Denzel and Viola Davis in particular.

Manchester by the Sea is the most overrated piece of garbage I have seen in years.

Two hours of monotonous torture. There is barely any story and it ends as pointlessly as it begins.

Should have known when I saw Manchester in the title it was going to be a pile of manure.

      Avoid.

Agree completely. I just don't understand how they rate/judge films. I couldn't get through Manchester by the Sea at all. As you say totally pointless monotonous movie. Also, that Case Afleck gets on my tits with his voice. Urggggg.

I just think the standard of movies is in decline in general. Movies like Craphester by the sea and Moonlight get hailed as masterpieces by critics because their stories are perceived as dealing with difficult political or cultural issues in modern society, when in reality they are just average movies.

Last year was a particularly poor year for movies. We are seeing less and less movies made by maverick directors that push boundaries in storytelling whilst also entertaining the audience.

It's a long time since I watched a movie I walked out of knowing it was destined for classic status.

Maybe something to do with quality writers being snapped up to write these unnecessarily long/mammoth boxset tv series rather than film? Given the multi year contracts that they sign up to for tv it probably provides writers greater security than a film that could be a box office hit or totally bomb. Don't do boxsets myself - why bother stringing out a good story for 15 odd episodes when you could do a better job inside a 2-3 hour film?

      Sadly Si... yes. 😕

The subject matter won it the Oscar [it had to after all the mewling] but it's really not that good; I've definitely watched better.

      Just seen it.

Could easily have turned it off after the first act.

Easily the weakest of all the Best Picture nominees I've seen so far.

Watched Brimstone last night, hard to watch in places, one of them where I suddenly realised that my face was looking away but my eyes were glued to the screen, a very, very, very good watch.

      http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1895315/

Yes really enjoyed watching Brimstone, some good acting that keeps you glued.

Live By Night is worth a watch also.
