Ok so this guy is a left back?

I wonder what the future holds then for Aurelio?

Wouldn't read too much into it. With Aurelio out till christmas and this lad being 18 I think he'll start in the reserves for at least a season.

Yes I know but I think Insua will do himself no harm in becoming our permanent left back with the 4 month head start on Aurelio.

Agreed. I think if Insua carries his good form into the new season he'll make the left back spot his own.

Well usually when that word is in an article the player turns out to be nothing special.

Are PSG becoming our feeder club?! :D

I think the only comparison os that he's French it happens everywhere these days and not just in the same sport. For example Brett Lee is out of the first test injured and some would say that he is the new Kewell. :P

      MAVINGA SIGNS FOR LIVERPOOL

Liverpool have completed the signing of French left-back Chris Mavinga from Paris St Germain.

The 18-year-old, who can also play at centre-back, has represented his country at U18 level.
He follows in the footsteps of striker David Ngog, who joined Liverpool from PSG last summer.

Been reported for quite some time, but at last we've got our man from PSG.

      Welcome Chris.

Has there been any indication to whether he's back up or if he's just gonna play for the reserves?

The lad is only 18, so I think he's gonna have a few years in the reserves or on loan and then challenge for the first team.

Maybe Dossena is out because he doesn't have a squad number. And for the moment Insua will play first choice, with Chris as backup.

Welcome Chris. If he is good enough, i am sure he will get his chances in the first eleven this season- possibly in the Carling Cup or something.

Welcome Chris lad YNWA. Another promising yound talent. Our left side looks very strong now. Aurelio, Insua, Dossena and now this lad. Very young and of course its all about how he takes his chance and how he impresses with Rafa but Im sure he has come here with a goal of challenging for his place. Good luck Chris

i've just entered the PSG forums. He was rates as one of the three brightest prospects of their team. He can play as a left back or center back. Not much info about him, but they said that he has 'tres gros potentiel' which translates as a very big potential. sounds nice, glen + mavinga soundas like powerhouse.

Never heard of him and I don't know anything about him, but I wish him all the best with his Liverpool career, and I'm trusting Rafa and the backroom boys to have signed a good 'un !

Mavinga - Reds move a risk

      http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_5449371,00.html

Former PSG player felt Liverpool showed more determination

      Last updated: 23rd July 2009

New Liverpool signing Chris Mavinga admits he has taken a risk in leaving Paris St Germain to move to Anfield.

The defender signed a three-year contract with the Premier League side earlier in July after Rafa Benitez's scouts identified the teenager's talents.

Mavinga did not play for the PSG first team during his time at the Parc des Princes, but still came to the attention of Benitez.

The 18-year-old would have liked to have featured for PSG but he could not turn down Liverpool, despite the competition for places, because they showed greater determination for his signature.

      Pressure
Mavinga said in L'Equipe: "I wanted to play on the Parc des Princes pitch. I would have loved to wear that shirt. PSG is the club in my heart.

"Liverpool followed me for one year. Benitez even talked to me, while I never had any talks with (PSG recruitment officer) Alain Roche or coach Antoine Kombouare.

"I made Liverpool wait while they put me under pressure. Then, (former boss) Paul Le Guen, who asked me to take part in some professional training sessions, left.

"I felt Paris only offered me a professional contract to stop me from leaving.

"I know I won't play at Anfield this season and the step to Liverpool's first team is higher at Paris. It is a risk, but an opportunity too."
