Liverpool in shock bid for Ribery
Liverpool are set to make a shock move for Bayern Munich winger Franck Ribery.

British bookmakers have today dramatically slashed the odds on Ribery moving to Anfield from 66/1 to 8/13.

This unusual transfer story has been backed up by similar betting cirumstances surrounding Michael Owen's shock move to Manchester United.

Reports from England have suggested that Reds manager Rafael Benitez will make a big-money offer to sign the highly sought-after French international.

Real Madrid, Manchester United, Barcelona and Arsenal have all been linked with Ribery but so far Liverpool's name has never mentioned.

Bayern Munich have already stated Ribery is not for sale but the winger has already stated his desire to leave the German club.

This news will definitely raise doubts over the futures of Xabi Alonso and Javier Mascherano. In order to secure Ribery, Liverpool may have to sell first before making this huge transfer outlay.

The Reds want to keep the pair, but their tight budget means Benitez - who has already splashed more than £17 million on Glen Johnson - will have to sell before making another big buy.

Speculation is that Liverpool could also put together a player-exchange deal involving Andreas Dossena, Andriy Voronin and Ryan Babel plus £25million cash.

      I dont want him.

If this meant we would lose either Alonso or Masch I would be bitterly dissapointed. He may be a superstar but I do not think he is cut out for us and the way Rafa plays his football.

It's not really going to happen though is it ?, we have not even been linked with him until a flurry of bets were placed on him.

I hate the way some papers try to put this negative view on Benitez as some 'angry man' - he's not angry in the slightest.

I know, was just thinking that myself.

Mind you - it's an article from Belfast.  If it was the Liverpool Echo I would be wondering what the F**k?

Personally i wouldnt want to lose Either masch or xabi for him, however theres a rumour doing the rounds that we would be offering Babel,Dossena and Voronin plus £25m?that wouldn't be a bad deal i think?off load some fringe players in exchange for a world class talent.Would he be a better buy than Silva?

Maybe, it really depends on how you look at it. I read that rumour as well, good deal for me because we're effectively spending 25million, as well as offloading a couple of tw*ts on the wage budget. Think Voronin might do them well as a backup as well, considering he's experienced in the Bundesliga and Podolski has moved back to Koln.

Do we even have that much of money?

Hopefully, but where will he fit? Doesn't he play on the right only? Or can he fit.. on the left?

From what I hear he can play both sides, but i've only ever seen him play on the left.

      THE INSIDER: Ribery to Liverpool

      Link to the Daily Mail

      Franck Ribery
Bayern Munich to Liverpool - The Insider says: 1/5

Unless Rafa Benitez believes in fairies or Liverpool are about to be taken over by new investors this deal is highly unlikely.

Bayern do have interest in Alvaro Arbeloa and admire Javier Mascherano, Xabi Alonso and Albert Rieira but Liverpool would need cash to replace those players.

Signing a superstar on the wing and being £15m out of pocket wouldn't make sense. But Liverpool will do more business

He would be a great addition to the squad but I feel he would be out of our price range we seem to be in right now.

A great player but way out of our price range . I'd rather not sacrifice Xabi or Masch for him . I love the system we are working with , and Rafa said that he had no intentions of selling Xabi or Masch .

God imagine if the Babel,Dossena, Voronin & 25mill deal went ahead.

Masch, Alonso, Gerrard, Ribery, Torres, Johnson, Carra, Skrtel, Yossi, Insua, Pepe, Aurelio. Dirk, Agger, Lucas, N'gog.  To name a few

      Enough to scare any side

The only good thing about this story if untrue, is that it's thrown two fingers up at Real Madrid.

I wouldn't mind him. I heard rumours of cash + player (Dossena or Babel was it?) for Ribery.
If we had to sell Xabi or Masch, I rather not have him then.

25 million quid for Babel, Dossena and Voronin. All for Ribery.

Would do the deal considering Babel is 22 and doesn't look like fulfilling his potential any longer. Dossena and Voronin are sh*te bags, completely useless and all just eating up the wages at the club.

As good-a player as he is, I would be unable to see past the fact that he is French, and at the end of the day we can't compete financially with other clubs that are interested in him.

But on the other hand, Kaka showed us it isn't all about the money...
