I'm guessing Malaysia is like the equivalent of playing a League 1 or 2 team though?

Yup. Probably Conference. Maybe even worse than Conference. In 2001 I still remember the mancs coming to Singapore and thrashing the Singapore XI 8-1. Even the Brazil Olympic team last year did Singapore 3-0.

And Singapore is many 20-30 places higher than Malaysia.

Sounds like Owen scored a fairly open goal. Well - he didn't have a keeper to beat.  Well done him.

opted to leave new signing Michael Owen on the bench

Reckon we'll be hearing that a bit this season.

I know, I think they will need to get their cheque book out, to sort this problem of sh*te-ness.

Scum beating Malaysia, is it? 2-0.

They were harping on about their fan base in Asia...well, the stadium is empty.

      Villarreal 27 - 0 Navate

      Villarreal hammer Spanish minnows
Villarreal began their preparations for the new season in style with a 27-0 friendly win over minnows Navata.

Having lost manager Manuel Pellegrini to Real Madrid this summer, the Spanish side could not have asked for a better warm-up to the campaign.

New coach Ernesto Valverde played a different 11 in each half.

Striker Jonathan Pereira notched up seven goals in the encounter, while fellow forwards Joseba Llorente and Ruben Marcos each scored four goals.

Former Arsenal winger Robert Pires was also on target with a brace.

Villarreal finished fifth in La Liga last season, narrowly missing out on a place in the Champions League on the final day.

Was 99.9% covered in red on Saturday. One reason it was probably empty because it was planned at the 11th hour and kids have got school tomorrow.

Madrid only beat Shamrock (who have just 1 pro) 1-0 and Ronaldo had a shi**er apparently :lmao:

Think the goal came in the 87th minute courtesy of Benzema.

      Ronaldo stifled in Dublin debut
      http://www.espnstar.com/football/primera-liga/news/detail/item296188/Ronaldo-stifled-in-Dublin-debut/
Cristiano Ronaldo struggled to make any impact against Shamrock Rovers in his first appearance for Real Madrid on Monday night.

The £80million man came in for close attention from the Irish side's defenders, not all of it fitting the 'friendly' title of this match, and could not conjure any of his trademark magic before being withdrawn at half-time with the score 0-0.

He was given two chances to produce with a free-kick, but sent the first one well wide and the second into the wall.

Indeed, the best scoring chance in the first half fell to the hosts as Sean O'Connor cut in from the right-hand side before sending a low shot just wide.

Madrid looked more dangerous after the break, with Rafael van der Vaart going close twice, the second with a spectacular overhead kick, and another high-priced import, Karim Benzema striking the post in the 56th minute.

Eventually, it was Benzema who won it, latching on to a long ball to score the only goal three minutes from time.

      ;D ;D ;D ;D
